Wait, what?

How does one search a box for one pack that has a penny sleeve in it?

In galaxy 7 they put the sketches into penny sleeves. It was VERY obvious what pack had a sketch in it just by picking up the packs, or stacking them even one will stick out slightly more. I'm pretty sure the backlash from Galaxy 7 was enough for them to not do it again.

Tim,
I'm not talking about those who sell boxes. Just stating all those who tried buying packs at lcs's or targets/walmarts etc. So called "hot" packs from this. It's a disgrace that Topps made it so easy to search for these. I had to warn ALL my fellow collectors around here who just buy packs. I also warned the shop owners, and all are very honest out here (at least the ones i know personally)in regards to this. Just stating, it was a dumb idea by Topps to do this.

You do know the hot pack searchers can find the chases no matter what right?

I can see both sides of this one. Yes, the hobby boxes were beyond silly as all you had to do is hold the packs on their side when picking them up and you could easily tell which one had a penny sleeve in it. At the same time, Topps seems to have continuous problems with damage (roller marks for the full size cards and the legendary crimped die-cuts) on sketches for years. They HAVE to do something to control the damage and the penny sleeve seemes to do the trick.

Hey Nick - gotcha now. I thought you had said you could search a box, not a pack, from the added penny sleeve, lol.

My two cents is there will be darn few collectors buying these by the pack. However, most of the dealers who stock hobby boxes would be the comic shops, who in my experience are all very ethical - not like a lot of sports card dealers that i have encountered. So for hobby I just don't see it being an issue. (Retail is another story if they are even doing retail.)

When I read your post on Scoundrel Art yesterday talking about doing 3 card puzzles and a majority of pencil versus color, I wasn't sure what to expect. But these look great! And each card is great on it's own, so even if you can't complete a puzzle, you will still have a nice sketch card. Looking forward to seeing the rest of your sketches for this set!

Thanks! I've been a collector myself for about 45 years, and bought my first non-sports cards in 1962 (both Mars Attacks and Civil War News). So I don't want any collector getting one of my sketch cards to be disappointed.

I'm new at the sketch card game, and my first gig was the recent Mars Attacks Heritage set, where I drew 108 sketch cards with 23 variations.

I'm kind of in a groove now, sketch card-wise, so when Topps asked me to do Star Wars Galactic Files, not only did I shoot for doing 106 variations, I wanted to do them all in color, as well. I was successful in both regards, as I finished all 106 different color sketch cards a week before the deadline, and they are all now at Topps for eventual random distribution.

I put together a video where I flip through all 106 cards, and I hope to post it on YouTube soon, as I just was cleared by Topps to publicly share the remainder of my SWGF sketch cards.

That is awesome! I am probably going to get a box of this stuff, I would love to pull one of your pieces!

dd316 - yours all look amazing as well!
