Default Oh Life.......

So my wife and I closed on our house last Friday. After 12K in furniture and another 5K to replace carpeting, I fear that my Walking Dead Set might have to hit the auction block.

Trying not to do that but there are greater priorities right now. I may keep the autos and just chase those from every future set.

I did get a SUPER generous offer of $500 on my Rick Patch to which I declined.

I parted with 80% of my collection about 10 years ago as part of the cash for the down payment on my family's house. It will hurt now, but less over time. Plus, it sounds like you're going about it the right way in that you're going to keep at least some of the collection. I think that will help cushion the blow.

Part of the reason I like buying cards as opposed to some other hobbies is that you can sell off parts of your collection for stuff like this. Sucks when you have to do it, but better than not having them there to sell.

The way I see it, you can't live in cards.

Congrats on closing on your house! Is this your first house together?

Thank you and No, this is our second. We still own a house in Maryland that we rent out to tenants.

Congrats on the house. You should enjoy a nice tax break on the interest. Do you mind sharing the rate you locked in at?

My wife and I closed right when the first-time home-buyer's tax credit was wrapping up, which was a sweet $8K, but the interest on a 30 year fixed was 5%. It's not terrible, but could have been better. Fortunately with that 5%, all the associated bank fees were covered as part of the deal. The $8K went pretty fast buying up furniture for the new place. Without it, I'd probably be out of the hobby right now.

Having a house to raise a family and make the wife happy is worth way more than any collection in my book.

We locked in at 3.91% for a 30 year fixed. And we were able to buy out the PMI and get the seller's to contribute 9K towards closing. We had to come to the table with about 17K. Fortunately, everything I bought was at 36 months financing, which makes the larger purchases much more tolerable.

My wife is at that stage where cheap furniture will not do. She wants higher quality stuff and decorations. She dealt with cheap furniture at our first house so I don't mind making the jump.

Ahhh debt. Without it, are we truly Americans?

Just shoot for the kind of debt that's either a tax write-off or 0% interest .

Congrats on everything going on in your life. I'm at a point where I can only afford to dabble in the hobby. I'm not worried about building master sets for the products I like, and I only limited myself to one Walking Dead auto of each character (and whatever patches I already had) once the price of boxes got crazy. For the most part I've limited myself to low cost, "fun" breaks, like Family Guy (not the biggest fan of the show but still like it). At the price point it's a fun, good value break.

I'm surprised you're not getting more interest in your badge. There literally may never be another one up for sale. Are you getting a lot of visibility? Maybe putting the word 'redemption' in the title would catch a few more people, because early on I would generally search 'Walking Dead redemption' without the word badge. Even opening it up to international bidders, but I can't blame you for not being comfortable with that with how much the card is worth. I'm sure interest will pick up around the premiere of the new season/new card set. Heck, there's a marathon on this weekend so who knows if someone gets excited about it then.

It has 15 watchers after the first day. I don't want to sell it so I'll have to get an offer that really wows me.

Congrats on the house!! 3.9% is really good as I'm at 5% with 10 yrs to go. I'd like to switch over to a 10yr loan, can lock in around 3%, BUT the bank fee's are so killer that it almost not makes it worth all the effort.

I didn't even see your badge up on ebay till tonite. Good luck with it!!
