Why do artist's want payment up front and tell you a 3 week turn around and after 3 weeks they have nothing to show and tell you if you want it to wait another "few more weeks". And i am talking about a $500 commission (which i paid on the same day). And now i have to wait a week for a refund??

Well, I have been waiting on a $500 commission that is paid in full for a couple years now, so it could be worse.

Wow, there's simply no excuse for that

I haven't really minded that much. I knew up front there was going to be a 6-9 month wait, and I was okay with that. I was offered a refund, but this is a grail piece for me, so I've just been letting it ride and keeping in communication.

Mark McHaley? I'm approaching the 5-year mark on waiting for him.

Couldn't be happier with my first PSC return. Juan Rosales was timely and had great communication. +

Never posted this (as honestly didnt know what this thread was lol)
Anyways, had this commissioned by Chris Henderson as a gift.
Turnaround was quickest I've ever had.
Hope to do more dealings with him in the future

+2

I commissioned 2 cards with Patrick Finch (Dungeon Dolls & Treasure Chests and Booty). He gave me a target date and cards were received before the date. Very quick turnaround...

Default a few positives to report

Just wanted to make sure I checked in with a few positives - I know it's always easier to complain, so I want to be sure that awesome artists get their due.

Frank Kadar did a 4-card PSC order for me, and not only was the turnaround fast, the quality was way past my expectations. A+

A few artists I met through DA and a recent WW convention but worth mentioning in case they are also here and I don't know it: Very positive results from Ryan Alexander, Dan Smith, Robert Wilson IV and Hamilton Cline. All were professional with great communication and very satisfied with my cards in the end. All highly recommended.

After seeing so many great commissioned sketch cards done by the very talented Mary Bellamy, I decided to pull the tigger and get one. She was very easy to communicate with and was very fast with the drawing and shipping of my sketch. I highly recommend her.

Just wait until you hit an artist that takes your money, doesnt hit the due dates THEY gave you, then finds a way to blame you for not being "more understanding" with their lies.

I hate artists like this.

This is why, when I take on a commission, I give an approximate date that the artwork will be finished in. Not only does it give me a little wiggle room if things get hectic in my life, but given that I am in constant communication with my customers, I can engage them at any time and let them know if the assignment will take several days longer than originally anticipated.

Honest artists will find a way to stay in constant contact with their customers, and will give a reasonable deadline that they can manage.

I've been lurking on Scoundrel lately (just to read the artist feedback section), and it blows my mind how many dishonest artists there are. Several people are still waiting on commissions that are several years old, and no matter how hard they try to get a hold of the artist, their communications aren't given a response! Inexcusable.

I'd like to leave +1 for Molly Brewer. I contacted her to get 5 PSC's and was very glad I did! She provided an estimated completion date up front (which was met perfectly), communication was excellent and she was a real pleasure to deal with. The artwork is very detailed and looks amazing in person. I highly recommend others check out her work (https://www.facebook.com/mollybrewerart )
