Default Can you rip and flip Non Sport?

I've been looking to rip and flip something for the first time and have been leaning towards baseball, but after doing some research I was wondering if it's doable with nonsport stuff. I went to the local card shop and bought 2 boxes of Heroes, 1 30th Anniversary Star wars and a Complete Movie Star trek. I actually found myself enjoying the break quite a bit, it's a nice change from the usual sports stuff. Even better, my wife was really interested in the stuff.

I don't know if I did well on my pulls, but my Heroes auto sold immediately on ebay for $60-Suresh, my SW30th sketch sold at the same time for $140.00.

I think overall, despite paying more than the initial release price on everything, I will break even. After scouring a couple of popular non sport and art boards, I realize there are a LOT of hardcore n-s collectors out there. Checking ebay's completed items made my jaw drop. I never realized N-S autos and especially sketch cards could command so much coin.

Is there anyone here who has successfully ripped and flipped a movie or tv show product?

Is the risk lower than with a sports product?

I've also noticed that several of the releases have been quite limited which makes me think it would be a safer bet, especially if one can get a good prerelease case price.

Sorry for the long read, but would love to hear your opinions.

This seems to be the way a lot of people are heading right now. I know that I was able to make a good share on Star Wars and Donruss Americana. There have been a bunch of posts about this as well. Even though Heroes was a big let down for most, Indiana Jones, Breygent Marketing's set and Star Trek all have great potential as upcoming releases.

Are the artists that make a set popular? or the subject of the set itself?

I've noticed certain sketch artists receive a lot of attention while the auto's sometimes fade into the background.

It looks like heritage will be a hit because a lot of well known artists have been signed on and as well the autograph set includes some big names.

Any thoughts or details on the Breygent release?

I had to resurrect this thread, I have 6 cases of Heroes coming in over the next two days and it looks like feast or famine to me. With the collation problems, anyone who gets a hot case or series of hot cases looks like they're going to do very well. As for those who are getting shorted, time will tell whether or not Topps will be sending decent replacements or garbage leftover costume cards or over produced autos. I'm still hoping a Peter/Claire Dual auto gets pulled since there's a picture of it on the sell Offical sell sheet.

How was everybody else been doing with their rip and flips?

I wish you luck in all your case ripping! I've opened a few boxes of LOTR Masterpiece 2 and bought some sketches off the internet. That's pretty much it for me.

Any word if they are releasing sketch cards for the new Batman movie? I think I would go broke if they did. I can just imagine the prices on some of those cards.

Sure you can, although you might ding the corners of the cards if you tried flipping them.

Nope, no Batman movie cards are coming but there is a Batman comic based set coming out next month from Rittenhouse Archives. 7500 serial numbered boxes, 1 color sketch per box plus several insert levels and various incentive cards.

Depending on price I might try a box (SRP didn't have a price). But, I'm bummed on the lack of movie cards being produced fore the Dark Knight movie. I think those boxes would have been on fire. Now, if someone will only produce The Crow sketch cards! Now that would be awesome!

Yup, Heroes 2 really is feast or famine but a little luck and it looks like it can be a $ maker. I'm astounded that the Ali Larter auto is selling upwards of $300 but even more shocked to see the dual costume cards bringing in $200. The really tough pulls like auto'd costume cards and dual autos are priced to reflect the difficulty, dual autos are over $500 and might go even higher if you get an especially good combo (i just saw a break with a Peter/Nathan combo) and a Sylar aro'd costume went for $650. I guess it's comparable to sports releases, a bad case will lose $$$ but a couple of good hits and you can make a killing. Luckily the cases are priced low and TOPPS is guaranteeing the hits so in the long run there shouldn't be too much risk (I'm hoping, still waiting on my 3 cases to arrive).

I was shorted 19 hits in my six cases -- sent it all to Topps yesterday. Will let everyone know what I get back from them.
