Default Longest wait for AP commission... ?

Out of pure curiosity, what's the longest you guys have waited just getting an AP started after contacting an artist? I've got two going on upwards of a year at the moment. There is a glimmer of hope with one of them, finally, as I followed up on past communication and got a list of available APs to select from. Doesn't mean it's getting started yet but we're getting there...

I've been waiting on (2) Marvel H & V APs since Nov. 2010.

I'm going on a couple of months... I guess that is nothing. I also haven't put down a penny yet, so there really isn't anything for me to complain about. If an artist requires payment, even partial, up front then they should really not accept commissions unless they feel they can complete them in a timely manner. Of course, what is a timely manner? For a single sketch card I would think 3 months is fair. I don't know. Maybe I'm crazy? If you take on more work than you can handle, you are going to end up upsetting clients by overly long waits or not putting in the effort they expect. Sometimes turning down business is good for business.

Oh, no, none that I am waiting on are paid for... just on the list to get one started. If I was waiting months for them to start, after paying, I'd be angry.

... That's a lot of Marvel sets that have been released since H&V. Whoa.

I pre-paid for my VOC sketch but she hasn't emailed me since late January. I figure, sooner or later...

Nobody likes a Bragger

Seriously though. I would have severed ties with the artist after the one year anniversary. And I WOULD request a refund. That's just me though.

I've been very lucky so far--longest wait for one I prepaid was 2 months and most of that was waiting for approval from UD and Marvel.

I've got a couple that I haven't paid for yet that are going on a few months.

Over 3 years, already paid, and always excuses. That's why I no longer commission anymore and barely collect sketch cards. A few bad artists that has spoiled it for me.

Marvel has been taking their sweet time for approvals

^ This is very true. I felt bad for a guy that I finished a card for in a few days and then an approval took months to come.

I've had the approval process take upwards of 3 weeks, so it definitely can add some serious wait time to an AP.

I had an artist take nearly a year with no responses to PMs for 5 months. I nearly gave up till recently and he sent me a pic of the finished card. I havent received it in the mail yet but I am hopeful.

Some artists I have had bad experiences with and others I have had awesome experiences with.

I need to post on the feedback thread about all the 30+ commissions I have had but I just havent taken time to do it.

I had one customer email today asking what is up and I had to tell him. I feel bad too. I have these cards done end of January and waiting to be shipped out. I also have 3 for myself I'm wanting to sell too

I don't have a lot of problem waiting as long as there is communication from the artist. I have 12 PSCs with the same artist as the APs that I have been waiting for even longer than the APs (also have a third AP that I'm waiting for although it's a Divas one so the wait hasn't been as long).

I have cut back on commissions as well. I basically only commission David Desbois and Andy Fry, but have been getting some done by Steve Stanley and Gary Kezele as well. I add a few here and there for my Bayonetta and Nariko collection as well. I have a few outstanding commissions from a couple of other artists (one Marvel Universe AP that was commissioned 11/2011, and was sent in for approval a couple of weeks ago, and 3 PSCs from another artist that I have been waiting on since 10/2011).
