Good luck Amber. You'll be a great addition to the roster.

For those of you who are interested... it looks like Amber posted all of those Marvel cards for sale on eBay and wasn't going to tell anybody perfectkismet | eBay

I'm so glad you liked him I was pretty happy with my skull, especially since I was working from memory. Yay, anatomy classes. Good call on the BIN, too, he had like 5 watchers in the first few hours. Now I just hope the others get a leeeeeeeetle higher than $15.

Just over an hour left on the auctions, for those interested.

Default Marvel

Maybe I shouldn't bring attention to this, but how are you not on Marvel while I am??? I love your style and Rittenhouse would be lucky to have you!

Hah. C'mon now. But if the sixth try is the charm, then we can both work on Marvel and everyone wins :P

Sooo... based on questions I've been getting, I thought maybe some of you would find progression stuff interesting. Sorry for bad phone pics, but these are the only kinds of progress shots I tend to take beyond those necessary for commission approval.

This one was a personal project I did last year to commemorate the City of Heroes MMORPG when the closing was announced. Bottom are my original characters and top are their video game versions (part of why I played CoH for 8 years is because their TOS allowed for you to keep ownership of your toon so I was comfortable utilizing my babies).

This was a teaser cropping I posted to my FB page... and pretty much where I started the picture.

I'll start inking parts I like when there's too much unnecessary pencil, so I can erase the page and start over on the parts I didn't like.

I'll start coloring while some parts are still not even penciled because... I'm dumb. Also, I get bored easily and like to jump around. Notably, you can see the flat colors, still, on the back left guy's lower half. Most of my blacks start with blue, true story.

Done? Nah. The colors were, more or less, but I still had to go back over all my ink lines and add fine details and small fixes.

Done. Took two days, pretty much. And man I miss that game.

Aaaand you will likely recognize the Once Bitten base art shown previously.

I didn't scan the pencils at all, so...

Teaser crop from FB. Flat colors... okay, they're not flat, per se, because I leave the white areas but it's all one marker color at this point.

Her hair and dress and the arm in the foreground are the most notably incomplete. None of it was finished, though.

Another FB teaser crop... even I find the side by side kind of interesting

Uncropped finished original (the card isn't the entire picture, just most of it)... unfortunately, before color adjusting the scan. Ah well.

So... was that fun at all? I could try to do more progress shots while working on cards, too. Or not, yanno, if it's not interesting

That was really cool, thanks. I love the idea for the first sketch too, with your original characters and the video game avatars you developed based on them.

Love seeing the progressions. It's so cool to see how things progress from basic outlines to the excellent finished product.

Did this really quickly today... for reasons. Again, thought someone might find it interesting.

The other day on Facebook, Warren Martinick mentioned how he used references... and I thought that was something else people might find interesting. Like him, for superhero stuff I only look for references for costumes and abstracts like how powers work or the type of build a character has. Very very rarely poses. Almost never anything requiring a direct reference because I suck at likenesses. For things like Insectae, it was more like this:

Background inspiration, colors-ish, anatomy.

Jason wanted progress pictures (after the fact) for his sketch cover, so this post is for him! I didn't remember to take the pics as often as I should've or at the best transitions, but I tried This is the first sketch cover I've done...

Finally thought to take pictures (just before I was asked!) I finally drew and inked Spidey while watching one of Lak's artcasts. Spider-Woman has 2 colors so far on her red and yellow, and a couple on her hair.

Sorry it's blurry! Spider-Man has his first two shades now, too.

Colored her face. One more shade of red... and a bit of blending on her mask to see how happy I am with the gradient at that point.

Pretty happy with the colors here. I think I ended up with 5 or 6 shades of red and 4 or 5 blues and yellows. Her thigh looks too thick, so if the re-inking doesn't help, I'll go back in with more darks to re-shape it some.

BOOM. Background. Yeah, I totally should've taken more pictures before this one... oops. I also started re-inking her head, which is why it stands out compared to everything else.

Finished. There are a couple things I see now that I would like to fix if I hadn't already mailed it off. Ah well >_>

....But wait, what's that in the corner?

Part 2! In an unrelated conversation Jason told me he thought I'd draw a good Carnage. I also know he likes process pictures... so I decided to surprise him with a bit of extra

...Sorry if this stays sideways. I did rotate it in photobucket but doesn't seem to like the change in the post preview.

....And that's how I left it. Though I think (hope) it looks a little cooler than this pic in person.

Wow--fantastic work

I may need to rethink my stance on sketch covers

You did an amazing job on that cover! And the in-progress shots were very cool, thanks for sharing. How long did it take to do the front cover?

That's tough... I did it over 4 or 5 days and at least twice I lost track of time to the point of working on it past midnight. I'd guess 10 hours for the front, but I could be off in either direction. Honestly, though, I'd rather spend 15 hours on something I can zone out and enjoy myself on than 7 on something I have to work through every step of the way. It was a fun change of pace once I finally got a Spider-Man I liked okay
