Default Amber N Shelton's Art Thread

Commission Info

You guys are so good to me here, I keep having to repeat my commission spiel in PMs so I decided to write it out here!
I tend to be booked well in advance, so if you want instant turnaround I'm unfortunately not going to be your girl. Instead, I have a list. If you contact me and think you might want on the list, I give a very rough estimate (eg. "April/May"). When I'm coming up on your spot in the list I'll contact you to a) make sure you still want the commission, b) make sure I have the details right and c) give you some time to make sure you'll have the money available I don't take money until after the commission is approved and I have absolutely no problem with anyone cancelling at any time before I start the work. All I ask is that you let me know.

Work outstanding list here (check up on me, s'all good!): https://www.facebook.com/notes/amber...74781882656120
Tentative prices and AP availability here: https://www.facebook.com/notes/amber...59508954183412
Sets I've been on listed here: https://www.facebook.com/notes/amber...59508954183412
Gallery of sketchcards here: https://www.facebook.com/ambernshelton/photos_albums

Initial Post

I'm Amber and I've been doing sketchcards since 2009 (charity) or 2010 (paid). No, I haven't worked for Rittenhouse*/UD/Topps, etc. I have worked for a ton of the small companies, though I tend to mostly get picked up for artist-run sets.
...And now Cryptozoic, which is great because I have always been a DC girl. Actually, I didn't hear about DC: The New 52 until it was announced. I emailed George to ask if he would consider me for any future DC sets and he asked me to fill in on that set for some artists that had quit

*April 2014 Edit: I have now started working for Rittenhouse. Still no UD or Topps, etc though

Some current previews and APs -

Asylum Studios' Blood and Glory

Badaxe Studios' Bombshells

Perna Studios' Spellcasters

APs

Very nice action scenes for Blood and Glory. That 1st Bombshell card is awesome!!! Great work on you're cards. Very cool story about Cryptozoic. Sometimes its all about just being in the right place at the right time lol It was kind of the same for me with Topps on Star Wars Galaxy6....somehow the artist list got lost when I sent in samples so I got picked up because of it lol.

Great preview sketches Amber, thanks for sharing! I've got Blood and Glory coming this week, and I was lucky enough to pre-order 3 sets of Bombshells, hopefully it will ship soon. And I'm crossing my fingers that I will get at least a couple sets of Spellcasters. So three sets where I will have a chance to pull one of your sketches!

Really wish I learned about these early enough to have bought some Blood and Glory packs, but hopefully I'll have a shot at at some of your Spellcasters cards! Love the DC stuff you've done too!

Oh, hey, I forgot to post Adam Martin's Cryptids APs in my current (last month) stuff!
The Hidebehind, Detroit's Nain Rouge and Tata Duende (which pulled up a lot of pictures of tatas in an image search -_-)

Those are awesome Cryptids AP sketches! On the second one, I thought to myself "The Travelocity gnome has gone horribly evil!". The background details really make those sketches stand out.

My favorites are the Bombshells sketches. I love the one with the pin up tattoo!

Terrific work, colors on the third Spellcaster just pop right out. Keep the great artwork coming!

I love those Bombshells! If I thought I could pull cards like that, maybe I would have tried to buy some. A couple other cards up there that I'm pretty damn fond of too

My Spellcasters basecard preview went up today, so you get it here, too
I think Tony Perna and I are the only two that drew guys... I grab the chance when I can! lol Fun fact - all my Spellcasters cards feature my own original characters.

Still don't have anything very new that I can show (boo) so I thought maybe some people who don't watch my FB art page would be interested in this...

Buyer approval stage. Totally junky pencils so they don't feel bad (and I don't get frustrated) if they want me to completely start over. -

Asked the buyer for help finding the correct costume for Saturn Girl. In the meantime, worked on foreground characters that she wouldn't impact. (This is after I got the references) Moved Lightning Lad for a better composition. -

Progress... still not liking Wildfire, though, obviously. Purple background? Nah, not really.

Complete. I re-ink all my lines and add the varying widths and such after the fact, otherwise they fade and often smear. Total time sink, but I can't convince myself to do away with the step.

just browsing sketchcollectors while I finish up some mindless work... came across this beauty worth highlighting

http://www.sketchcollectors.com/gall...1365817501.jpg

I didn't direct post the card because it does contain some slight nudity and I didn't want Amber's thread to get shut down by the mods.

I didn't collect this set and am glad after not being impressed by MOST of what I have seen... but this is a beauty. Would love to see this card in hand

Haha, thanks! I believe I did three cards with boobs showing... despite being referred to as what's wrong with the hobby the last time I did

Here's the censored version from my Facebook art page, and a link to the Bombshells gallery for anyone interested in seeing all of them. I struggled to find a theme for myself within that set, so ended up splitting it up into a couple mini themes. The tattoos and sepia toned "photos" were my favorites. I probably would've done more of the latter if I still had more blanks at that point

Okay guys, I know some of you are upset about Spellcasters... so I won't mess around with the slow reveal. Here were my contributions and you're getting them in entirety even before my Facebook art page

I used mostly my own original characters (yay, miss them) and had a lot of fun experimenting with coloring powers and playing with lighting. Learned a lot, which I think shows from my first attempts to my later ones just within the set so it'll hopefully show as I move forward with more sets, too.

Cool stuff, thanks for sharing! I like the dragon sketch the most, with the guy who is chained up and leaving his body a close second.

Yeah, I'm a fan of your art in general but that dragon is definitely a home run with the amount of detail in it's body. Hopefully it'll be in my mailbox tomorrow =)
