I wonder if it's close enough to release now to tell you this set did not have a high print run.

Nah, I should probably wait until after the 25th.

"base" is the key word; no sane person expects SSPs, etc. in a base set. Maybe the sports collectors are just more inherently knowledgeable b/c everyone knows with heritage bb, for instance, that a base set would not include the rare stuff. also, heritage bb has been around for many years and you get the same collectors each year.

Should be fun. I have never bought this sort of product, always gone for Star Wars, but thought I would give it a try and put in an order. Looking forward to it.

The difference between the two is not insignificant.

The point is, there's not going to be a flood of product out there like some are probably expecting. But I do think there will be significant interest considering all the promotion and marketing we're doing.

The set will also be light years higher in quality than I think some are expecting, as well, based on the initial reaction we saw when the set was announced.

I'm not going as deep as many here probably are, but I'm getting a couple of boxes and I'm very excited.

Can't wait for the shipping confirmation to arrive.

You can get a rough estimate by assuming that there are 50 4-card puzzle packs and using those pack odds, since Alvin told us quite some time ago that was the goal. The only question would be how many more or less of those were actually packed out.

All I know is we ended up with way more 4-card puzzle packs than we anticipated. We toyed with the idea of splitting some up, but felt it wasn't right to do that, so we commissioned some more good ones (by Jason Crosby, Chalker, etc) to make up for the loss of singles.

Benficiary is the fans who will hopefully end up with lots of 4-card puzzle packs!

Wish I could have found time to work on this set but alas it came at a bad time with other work I was doing. Topps is one of my favorite companies to work for so maybe on the next set. From what I have seen this set looks Fantastic, Adam!

I know from reading this thread that there are some that aren't fans of the puzzles (for understandable reasons), but with Topps packing them with all four cards in the same pack, I think that would make them cool. You don't have to hunt on ebay for hours trying to find the remaining pieces.

I think you did say that the 3-card and 6-card puzzles were split though.

Either way, I enjoyed working on the puzzles better than the singles!!!

Here is my guess on total number of cases....<1000. Perhaps around 800?

I come up with that doing rough math on the graphic provided on the artist list which was color coded with number of sketches drawn.

So, if 4 artists did 25 sketches, 7 did 200, and 62 did on average 80 (it says between 50-100), that comes out to 6,460 sketches. A sketch a box, comes out to 6460/8 or 807 cases. I know at least 50 were loaded packs with puzzles, and there were some creator sketches too, but roughly speaking those numbers seem to jive if that graphic is accurate.

Anyone agree, or am I missing something?

For the Heritage release, I am pretty sure there were over 14,000 sketches. I have a spreadsheet by artist which I account for 12,000 and there were at least 25 artists whose info I am missing.

Your math sounds pretty solid to me based on what we currently know. We'll have to see if maybe due to under-ordering if some boxes have more than one single sketch.

I really wish I could have picked up another couple of cases, but it just didn't work out for me. I see on one online retailer's site that the case price has already gone up $15 from the pre-order price.

I am all in on this one - 25 cases. If anyone is looking for anything let me know; I won't have time to post stuff here unless it's a killer sketch.

I honestly don't know the exact numbers, but your math seems sound, and the number of sketches we commissioned sounds about right.

Point is, if interest is where I think it will be-- well, let's just say that Tim is going to do alright.
