Dangit, I was hoping that presell price guess was too high, $1300 with that cut auto checklist is just too risky. The base might sell for $65ish and the art cards maybe $125-$300, that leaves a cut auto to get $750ish to get out of the box, there are maybe 4 out of 150 on the list that will make you happy, heck it's Lincoln, Lee, Grant, J. Davis then about 6 'B' level Generals that sell in the $300 area(I got a Joseph Hooker from HOW and it sold for $250ish),plus Clara Barton- a Leaf cut auto sold for $300ish. I thought for sure this would have 2 cuts per box like 1600 did, I prefer more cut autos to 4 base cards. So many cuts of guys that are neat and old but just don't translate in sales. I know it's about the joy of collecting, but I don't enjoy getting a box from the shop where I'm asking a higher power "Please don't let me get brutalized opening this!' I felt that way with Oval Office, at $2200 a box it was almost not fun pulling that card out of the felt lining and...Jimmy Carter 2/5!! I got 4 really good cards from Oval Office but a friend opened two from ebay and he got George H.W.Bush/5 and Gerald&Betty Ford dual for $4200.

There's also a PGT Beauregard. One just sold on eBay for $320 (PG Beauregard Cut Auto 1 1 Mexican Amerian Famous Fabrics Ink Horrors of War II | eBay). Aside from the big names already mentioned, I noticed a John Bell Hood and maybe one or two other names (without researching). I agree that the gamble is just too scary on these. It's Oval Office/1600 Penn all over again, with different Jimmy Carter/Gerald Ford's. I may, however, try to put together a base set, as I already have sets from HoW Series I and II.

[And don't bore me with legal group break this and that....you know this one would be fun]
Slight alteration suggestions (if Blowout would allow this). If you add $0.75 to entry cost, you could probably ensure that everyone at the very least gets a card from Victoria Gallery's 1991 Civil War release. Additionally it would probably be smart to explain that you cannot "win" twice. So each person that gets a hit is removed from the remaining draws. I guess you could also include the box as a "hit" as they might themselves become collectors items eventually?

It concerns me that the base card art is a blatant ripoff of the Kurz and Allison paintings released in the 1880's that i have collected for 2 decades now. I hope the proper attribution is given on these...

I will leave these here for you to decide. I will not partake in this product as of now because of price. But my best of luck to all who choose to break.

Second line of group break thinking;

1 box Civil War (1 cut, 1 art, all base)
10 box case Horrors of War (10 cuts, 10 inserts, all base)
5 boxes Leaf Masterpiece (5 cut autos, why not go for Abe twice?)

4394 / 29 slots = @150 per slot. Straight up draft. 16 out of 29 slots would be cut autos.

Whoops I misread, didn't see he said "straight up draft" ... I'd be down for that!

I was really looking forward to preordering a couple boxes but to me the price is to high right now. 1600 had more big hits and last time it was in stock at BO the price was $1,099 so they should come down.

I don't have a problem with the group break idea here but isn't a 'chance to win' gambling which is illegal in some places and possibly (probably) against forum rules?

That's why draft is preferred. It's not illegal as far as I can tell. Here's how they get away with it on ebay: either offer a 1) hand signed index card by the host or 2) an additional card if you get skunked. Hence my suggestion for supplementing with a low value card and rinkraith's further suggestion of a draft slot weighted down by more low and mid-range products.

I actually just participated in a break where you had probably 50/50 odds of being skunked if you bought one slot. I also bought into a hockey team break where I bought three teams and was basically skunked.

BO allows it but if I were hosting, I'd lean towards the everyone gets something side of things so that even if you fork over $17 you have some little thing to show for it.

Once you provide them something for their money, it's no different from buying a pack of baseball cards and therefore probably just as legal as that activity in each locality.

direct cost is $1099 - it won't go any lower at this time.

heard over the w/e at the CSA show that the cost will be about $1200 per box so the estimates here are in the ballpark............

They are good looking, I sure like a cut signature product that has no ball point pen ink signatures!

Not sure who said it was August 16th?

The Release Date is August 1st and I know several dealers will have it at the National.

Love the Uncle Billy and especially the Hardee cuts!!! Good job on those... Darius N. Couch wasn't actually at Gettysburg ,though he was in charge of the Dept. of the Susquehanna at the time and had Fort Couch constructed in June of 63 near Harrisburg...close enough I guess.

Still concerned about the base cards though...

Why? There was a thread a while ago about trading cards featuring great paintings... A SKETCH card set and many collectors expressed interest.

If these are based on those paintings, well, they're great paintings. The base cards too look well done, so just enjoy them. (Not much photographic record of some of those scenes exist)
