School's in session, so I think it'll uptick on the weekend.

I thought about picking up a retail box to try and complete a set of the retail only cards.

^almost all schools either started late last week or this week. The weekend will be the true signs of where this movie will end up.

Never mind!
I saw a sealed gravity feed box at Target this afternoon. I didn't feel the need to pick it up.

I don't think "schools in" is a great excuse for its poor first day lol. Hunger Games came out during school season, I went to a midnight show in Daytona Beach, FL and SEVEN of the 12 theaters were packed full. I had never seen anything like it. I've also seen massive crowds on school nights for Twilight and Harry Potter, all franchises geared towards the same demographic. I think we are seeing an end to these cheesy teen novels being adapted into films. Percy Jackson sequel, flop. (The first one was at least fun, but even it didn't do well enough that a sequel should be made) The Host, flop. Beautiful Creatures, Flop. Studios are preying for the next Twilight and grasping at straws trying to find it but I don't think it'll happen again for a while.

There is a huge difference between "schools in" and "school starting".

and besides, the 2nd movie has already been green lit.................

Hunger Games did like $30M just at midnight shows on a tuesday, so yeah, opening day can be nuts.

A bunch of the box office sites are already saying the weekend race is between The Butler and You're Next (which I got to see at Comic Con... If you are a horror fan check it out! Very good film)

And like I said, plenty of films are greenlit and then aren't made. I do not think we will be seeing a sequel for this movie, it's all going to come down to international receipts.

Going to see this movie tonight with my wife. I actually thought it looked cool and like the concept, but I guess I am in the minority here. Looking forward to the movie before cards were being made, now looking forward to the cards Guess I will be able to build a master set for cheap then

I won't worry about the cards until they actually come out. There are still some pretty popular actors that did autos for the set, and this is the first Lily Collins certified autograph ever I'm pretty sure.

Yep, first from her...Not the first from Headley or Rhys Meyers though. I am waiting to see the Thursday numbers, but a lot of the box office sites are predicting a <$25M weekend for it, and actually all movies this weekend. Some of them think it'll be the first time since Feb that there isn't a film over $20M on the weekend.

I guess it depends on the property. Hunger Games was hyped beyond imagination, whereas I never even heard of this title until I read about the cards a couple weeks ago.

Ok, I know I will probably get flammed for this but if anyone is interested in any signed mortal instruments photos, please check out my ebay store. All signed in person, with photo proof. Pm me if you want any, I would do a better deal on here to save on fees.

items in mortal instruments store on eBay!

Beat by two films Thursday, 13% on Rotten Tomatoes. Ouch.

Why can't we have a card set for The Worlds End instead of this movie lol?

Well, Rotten Tomatoes doesn't influence my movie decisions, but it is looking like this one is a flop.

A World's End set would've been great.

$3.1 million on Friday for a 3-day total so far of $7.87 million. It might not even crack $15 million after Sunday. That's an awful opening.

Never heard of this or knew this was a movie until this thread. Saw one of the gravity feeders today of it at Target and it looked fairly untouched.

It sounds like Moral Instruments is a manufactured phenomenon force fed into pop culture written with the intent to find a market and use marketing to tell others how great it is, more so than like with Twilight and Harry Potter where those properties matured into earning a fan following through time, and Hollywood's hype machine took the next available property which they thought they could exploit into a teen franchise and didn't deliver.

The same thing is happening with Hollywood's adaptations of comic book properties and they're optioning almost everything and releasing sub-par material.

Official estimates are 9.3 million for Fri-Sun, 14.051 million for the Wed-Sun 5 day opening.

As a comparison, that 5 day number is about 9% of The Hunger Games 3 day opening of $152.55 million.

Ever since THG exploded all the other young adult movies have pretty much tanked. Beautiful Creatures, The Host, Percy Jackson and now Mortal Instruments.
Next on deck is Divergent, but that looks much better so far than the recent failures.

At least there is Catching Fire coming out soon, that should be an interesting opening weekend.

Ouch this isn't even out yet? I thought it would be out in time for the movie. Will anyone be interested in it more than a month after no one even saw the movie?
