Default Haven't seen a sell sheet yet...

I'm disappointed that Upper Deck got this license. I was thinking of getting some based on the first movie set by Rittenhouse but now I expect stickers and bad collation by UD.

Best Always,
Vinny

Sh*t, UD Has it? There goes any hope of a Mickey Rourke Autograph. They can't get him to sign for Sweet Spot, he's not gonna sign for this. I hate UD.

From an Upper Deck news release (not that any pre-sell information means anything):

"Based on the sequel to one of the hottest movies last year, the Iron Man 2 trading card set will not only feature exclusive images from the movie, but will also boast autographed cards from the stars including Don Cheadle and Mickey Rourke, as well as pieces of costumes and equipment straight from the movie."

I really want to open a couple of cases of this product, but I have some reservations of my own. The sticker autographs really put me off, and also the checklist of who is signing has yet to be released. The only checklist I've come across showed the "main" names, however it was lacking Paltrow and Johansson.

I freaking knew it! I almost ordered 2 cases when UD sent this to a couple of dealers I buy from a couple of months ago:

"In April, the Iron Man II Trading Cards will be released, with autograph cards from Robert Downey Jr., Don Cheadle, Mickey Rourke, Gwynneth Paltrow, and Scarlett Johannsen; plus memorabilia cards with costume and equipment pieces from the movie. Subsets on Iron Man’s armor, classic comic covers, and behind-the-scenes footage will be included in the seven-card hobby packs at $2.99."

The only reason I held off was that it's UD and they've burned me with the old bait-and-switch for non sport autographs in the past, and even if they get a good signer they end up being 1 in 10 cases or tougher. Paltrow and Johansson would be worth trying my luck with a couple of cases, even if they were stickers. I can't wait until release to see how the first breaks pan out and what the real contents are. "Maybe" I'll buy some boxes if it looks decent after release (anyone care to calculate the odds on that?)

I was planning on preordering a case of this to make sure I get it (and hopefully at a reduced rate)... but should I hold off and if it turns out to be good hope to find a good deal. My theory is that if I preorder it and it bites... then the value is shot, but if I don't preorder and it's awesome- then the price will shoot up and I won't get a good price. Not to mention if Rourke ends up being the top signer... I won't be interested (not a fan personally).

sketches are fine and dandy. Big autos are the icing on the cake. If UD doesn't deliver the stars of the movie, you may as well have another Terminator: Salvation type release.

edit: looking at those sketches, I'm going to revise my above statement. Star Wars Galaxy 5 showed us that sketches can be mostly of incredibly high quality, realistic, artistic. The sketches above are mostly... okay.

Yes, I'm a little hesitant about Iron Man 2 cards because we dont know if key stars are going to be there besides Mickey and Don, however, I just saw sketches of Star Wars Empire 3D...I'm getting 3 cases of that $heet. Holy mother of god. 1 sketch can easly go for $ 500+.

I'm still leery about pre-ordering any. I've seen sketch examples from a fair number of artists on the Scoundrel board and the quality looks good overall, the problem is those who do the junk sketches or have a lot of repeats or "half head" sketches don't post them so you generally only see the good stuff before release. Still no signer list is off-putting too, you'd think this close to release if they had even a couple of big names locked up they'd be advertising the hell out of it. I'll take my chances and wait until after release to decide on buying boxes or cases. I mean, how often do non sport cases jump in price shortly after release, even if they are good? Most drop or stay stable, the really good ones tend to stay flat for a while after release and climb slowly rather than shoot up quickly after release.

I'm not buying anything until I know what I'm buying. I'm not buying a cat in the hat anymore. I want a specific sale sheet, checklist and then I'm game. Incarnadine is right, the price will remain the same for a while since it's a new, unknown product. More press release info will help a lot.

Well, after long debate I decided to buy a case. The price is reasonable for the biggest movie of the summer and 3 hits per box can't go wrong with that. Mickey Rourke auto is a pure awesomeness on top of it. If there are Scarletts, Gwyneth autos it'll be freaking amazing too. Anyway, I will post my results as soon as I'll get my case.

for those interested, this is what UD currently says:

the Iron Man 2 trading card set will not only feature exclusive images from the movie, but will also boast autographed cards from the stars including Don Cheadle and Mickey Rourke, as well as pieces of costumes and equipment straight from the movie.

They are making it up as they go along. Just give them their money first and then they'll see what they can do for you.

I'm sticking to Rittenhouse and other established non-sports companies.

Best to All,

This is what they always do. Why tip their hat that they do not have Downey and risk the loss of sales. I wouldn't be surprised if they never actually release the autograph list but it will be leaked that Downey is in the product so people will keep buying it. It is the same thing they did with the MM writer autographs. They never released a checklist and I called numerous times even just asking how many different cards there were and they wouldn't tell me.

2008 UD Documentary. The checklist still shows Griffey and Jeter autographs. Try and get an answer past `if it is on the checklist'. I have never seen one of them yet as well.
