Default streaming service ?

looking for opinions on which one is the best ? I started off with Netflix 2 months ago and not very happy with the selection . theres like ? 1 nightmare on elm st movie to choose from . none of the more recent ninja turtles movies , it seems like Netflix is the only streaming service that doesn't have 10 cloverfield lane yet ?

none of the insidious movies , I can go on and on .......

what is up with this ?

so on my apps I have hulu , which looks to have pretty damn good selection . when I click on amazon , the selection is amazing as well . but im kind of confused . some have the amazon prime logo so its free with the service ? but like hulu a lot of the movies I want to see have a 3.99 price tag on them ? do they have a service where I can stream any movie ? unlimited for a flat rate like im paying for Netflix ? I typicaly like to watch a couple of movies a week . so 8 bucks a week plus the cost of the service ? could realy get expensive ...

then a friend at work tells me about the firestick ? what the hell is that now ?

Do you want to watch Any TV Show or Movie that's still in theaters? Buy a Firestick!

Netflix adds and removes movies . and shows all the time. Right now it seems more focus on its original stuff.

I have Amazon and Netflicks. I don't think any would have 10 cloverfield Lane without and original rental fee outside of the monthly cost at $8-10 a month. Very rarely will you see new movies that are out a few weeks on there. Again youre paying $8/month.

you're not wrong that the selection has shrunk on Netflix, but as stated earlier it's probably because of their originals focus lately.

Go to a Redbox at the grocery or gas station and pay $1.50 per movie. Saves me a ton of money.

On Amazon when you have prime certain movies and shows are included which is why they have the prime on the top corner. Other movies and shows (usually newer ones) will cost the 3.99 or so regardless if you have prime or not.

In my opinion getting Amazon and Netflix both is the way to go as the compliment each other nicely. Usually if one service doesn't have it the other one will especially since Netflix has their original content and Amazon has a bunch of HBO, USA, and FX shows. I've also had hulu in the past but it really didn't seem worth keeping the subscription.

here's my cord-cut setup.

we pay for Hulu Plus and Netflix. We have a vudu account for UV codes. These codes are usually sold with new movies and people will often keep the blu-ray or dvd and sell the code for 2-6 bucks. So you can get access to the newer movies when they are released for home purchase by just buying this code from somebody. it's yours as long as the UV code database doesn't go under (which could be catastrophic for me because we hardly buy DVDs anymore and just buy digital copies).

so for about 30 bucks a month (the 2 streaming services plus buying a few movies via UV code) we get by just fine. couple that with our antenna for local channels and the occasional streaming of something, we're set.

now, you could go with a jailbroken firestick if you have the tech savvy to set it up and get it working, you can gain access to everything for the low low price of free (and your internet costs).

I own Netflix, Hulu and the wwe network. Between life, hobbies and free time that seems like enough. So essentially 35 bucks versus cable. I do get cable during football season which is nice because direct tv lets me start and stop service when I want as long as I pay their price.

Yes. That's what I'm talking about anyways. It really is very simple to navigate, and it pretty much replaces all need for a streaming service. Plus there's no monthly fee, so it pays for itself in a few months of not having Netflix or Hulu.

There are tricks and run arounds with cable. Become friends with your local cable guy going door to door selling. I pay $140/month for Xfinity, Internet, Phone for the past 4 years. Even the cost of cord cutting is close to that after good enough to stream internet figure, and I have every channel including Red Zone.

Basically it is programmed. Apps are installed that allow access to shared movies and other items.

Well when talking about the fire stick it's really not even jail broken. It's just a program that is side loaded onto it. You open this program and you can use add ons for free. There are hundreds of add ons ranging from sports tv, live games, movies and tv shows that get updated daily, and porn. You will never run out of stuff to watch. Lol. You can install whatever add ons you plan on using.

It really is simple. I got my mom one when I got mine, and she picked it up really quick. You can get them on eBay for like $60. You won't regret it. Just make sure to choose a seller that has a lot of feedback for selling them.

A guy on BO sells the firesticks:

Do you want to watch Any TV Show or Movie that's still in theaters? Buy a Firestick!

I have purchased several and have referred many people to him as well.

No need to have netflix, hulu or whatever other streaming services there are as long as you have this.

Cost is like $70ish....and will pay for itself easily.

I've been thinking about buying a jailbroken firestick but I'm worried it may be like the old directv " football cards" that had to be reprogrammed like once a month. Anyone with a firestick ever had this kind of issue.

Never.......and the OP of the link I posted above said that if there ever is a "patch" he will take back the sticks and re-program them.

I highly doubt that will ever happen though.
