Default Computer Savvy people please enter...

So I think I blew the cooling fan in my Gateway T-Series laptop!!! I need help with what I should do....should I go out and just buy another one and sell this as is or should I buy the fan (which I don't know exactly which one to buy) for the laptop and try to install myself or take it to the Geek Squad....

It's a Model W350I HDMI T-Series. If anyone knows where I can get one, please let me know. I'm thinking it's the fan cause as I am typing this, my lap is feeling a light burning sensation.....

I would try cleaning the fan and the vent where the air blows out. Did this when my old laptop and it helped a lot. I had to do it about twice a month though, that sucked. However my house was very dusty, so you probably wouldn't have to do it as often.

When you asked:

did you mean sell your laptop as is and buy another laptop? If so, that is what I would do... I am not a big fan of Gateways. I would look into Asus and Thinkpad.

mac vs pc is really personal preference. I would take a good PC over a good mac, but that's just me.

You can send it in to my shop to get worked on....I guarantee I'll be cheaper and do a better job than the Geek Squad.

Dell is solid imo. I have always had great computers from them.

i agree.

i had a gateway laptop for gaming and all i can say it ran the hottest out of any computer i ever owned. i could barely keep it on my lap and the fan was working. eventually switched and there is a noticeable difference in the temp on the newer cpu.

Say NO to: HP, Gateway, Compaq and Dell. As a professional that services these, you will run into more costly headaches with these machines. Ever wonder why they're so cheap? They source the crappiest parts and offer a limited warranty on them.

Say YES to: Acer, ASUS, MSI, Lenovo <- Especially those 2 I bolded. Take my opinion for what you will, but I can almost guarantee I've serviced more laptops than anyone on this forum.

Isn't lenovo high high end branch of Thinkpads? That's what I was told.

I agree with no HP, Gateway, Compaq. Sometimes dells are nice (Mine was awesome for 4 years before it was stolen) but more often they are terrible (my dads fell apart in 2 years.) Also, stay away from Toshibas and Sonys

I love my Asus, love it to pieces. So much that I pretty much made my GF get an asus when she wanted a new laptop.

IBM made Thinkpads until they sold their computer division to Lenovo. There aren't any low-end Thinkpads made by anyone else, it's all Lenovo.

In my experience, Sony is a decent brand, but very expensive. You pay for the design.

Toshiba goes either way, much like Fujitsu. Some are good, some are meh.

If you are willing to pay shipping here and back i would be more then willing to fix it for you, you would also have to give me a budget on a new fan.
