Default My first Pheasant Hunt

Well the seasons are here. Early goose has ended (no thanks to Hurrican Ike whom ruined the last few days of the early season), but DU had a sponsor pheasant hunt at Dunn Creek in Laingsburg (about 25 min East of Lansing) and I quickly fronted the $$ to go. Started with a Tower Hunt, some killer grub, then a followup walk up hunt. Little did I know the best hunt would come later when 4 die hards and one dog handler (the female in the pic)...4 guns 5 dogs was a great combination. The middle lab was phenomenal to say the least. I think the last round Jaz caught 6 live birds on his own (it was well into the 80's and birds weren't flying the best). With a little work Bailey (My Weim) was pointing and flushing Pheasants like a champ. Wasn't the best dog we had in the field, but dad would be more than willing to argue her case to be among the best Zeus (my lab) needs some work, but well happy to run through the grass and check out the watering holes. Plus side he did flush one next to the pond and go to do a followup retrieve

Sounds like a great day of fun. I have never done the tower hunt. We usually go out on family Land in Missouri with our bird dogs and fourwheelers. It can be a lot of fun.

I haven't had pheasant in years. Looks like a blast man!

Who wants to go on a Snipe hunt?!

Man I can't wait for the last Saturday in October!! They say the pheasant numbers in Iowa are down 25% in most regions of Iowa besides for nw Iowa there up 50%. Thats about the only place that was dry this spring and avoided the flooding we had out here. I have still seen a ton of birds and can't wait to get my pointer out and start walking some CRP!

Here are a couple of pictures... One is my English Pointer(the best pheasant dog in Iowa!) The second picture is my giant Iowa doe, they just don't get much bigger than this! I am 220 lbs and this deer was heavy!
