Default What's the best printer/scanner for the card business

I'm going to be in the market for a new printer soon...but I was wondering what kind of scanners some of you guys use and if it's a combo printer/scanner.

I've been using my digital camera for pics because, I really don't like my scanner...it's an HP and I never really mastered the software...just seems to take forever and a day to get a the scans how I like them.

I wouldn't spend a ton on a scanner. As long as you can get 300 dpi scans, just about anything will work. Unless your selling a ton of very high end cards I wouldn't go overboard with the scanner. I use a HP PSC 750 (combo print/scan/copy) that works just fine, think I paid $125 for it 5 years ago. Only problem is the scanner is crapping the bed on me, so it only works when its in the mood

Anyone have any scanner/post-processing tricks to remove grainyness from pictures?

There are some cards that look horrible in the scan, but when I upload them to ebay, they look pretty good.

Check your scan quality settings. You could also try to put a black felt cloth behind the cards. The black will absorb some of the extra light from the scanner bulb and should make the scan look better.

I love EPSON scanners. Had one that last for several years, just replaced it with the Epson Perfection V200 Photo. Completely satisfied so far and it is under $100.

I have a Epson Stylus CX 7400 All in One printer with both Scanner and Printer, but this piece of Junk somehow needs you to have color ink cartridges when printing B&W pages.

I have a Dell AIO (all in one). Scans, Copies, faxes, prints, washes the windows, etc... I wouldn't spend a ton of money on one of these. Patrick is right, $125 is about as much as you need to spend and it should do everything you will ever need it to do.

I use a CanonScan LiDe 90. It is USB powered and I haven't had any problems with it after about a year of usage.

As others have said, even the low-end models from brands like Canon and Epson will be fine. I'd still make sure you have a good digicam (w/ good macro mode) for taking pics of the few kinds of cards that don't scan well.

I have an old "mini flatbed" scanner from HP that scans up to 4x6". Very fast for scanning cards as it doesn't have to scan/process an entire 9x12" area. But these are extremely hard to find these days.

Sounds good guys...I'll see what a can find on the low end that you've suggested

I do have a nice digital camera with macro mode (Sony Cybershot) and it's worked pretty well, lighting can be a problem on some cards though.
