Default EliteXC / ProElite is no more!

I "borrowed" this from another MMA forum, and I think they "borrowed" it from another website. Well, it looks like Tito's new contract doesn't mean crap and I find that hilarious. I think the only true winner here is actually Kimbo.

5thRound.com sources have confirmed that ProElite, which is the parent company for EliteXC, will be closing its doors this Friday. Sources close to the situation verified that the employees for the struggling MMA company received word today that the company’s last day of work will be this Friday. During the company’s two years of business, it has been reported that they have lost nearly $60 Million, causing many to believe that, despite their valuable deal with CBS, it was only a matter of time before the ship sank.

EliteXC just held their third CBS promotion, “Heat,” last month, which turned out to be another primetime ratings success. However, on the event, the company’s golden boy Kevin “Kimbo Slice” Ferguson was knocked out in 14 seconds. As he fell to the mat, it seems as though he took EliteXC’s hopes for a future with him as well.

Graciefighter.com, which is run by Caesar Gracie, the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu coach for ProElite fighters Jake Shields and Nick Diaz, posted the following on their website:

"We are confirming that EliteXC has folded. What this means for our fans and supporters is that there will not be a Nick Diaz vs. Eddie Alvarez fight on November 8th. However Jake Shields in the UFC has now become a real possibility. We will be updating our site for future developments."

In ProElite’s attempt to be more competitive to the UFC’s stranglehold on MMA, they acquired a number of smaller MMA promotions, most notably King of the Cage and Cage Rage. Rumble on the Rock, the Hawaiian promotion owned by JD Penn, the older brother of UFC lightweight champion BJ Penn, had been leasing his promotion to ProElite. Our sources have confirmed that JD was laid off this afternoon as well.

Most are saying Gina was was probably lucky this happened. However, I'm thinking Affliction might take EliteXC spot with CBS or Showtime maybe. Affliction had already let AA fight on the last EliteXC event (which was on CBS). Anyways, what I'm trying to say is don't be surprised if Affliction picks her and the fight up since they have already intermingled. But it wont be for a long while now. Damn, this also means the Shamrock Vs. Shamrock fight is off.

I'm with you Cubbie. I like ELite also and mainly because it did not cost $50 to watch a good fight. They have had at least 5-6 pretty good cards worth of fights over the last year and I already have Showtime because of Dexter

but their cards on CBS have been a joke.

UFC doesn't need a premium channel to carry their fights or network cable station because their the Top draw and that's why people pay the money.

Most good boxing matches would always be on PPV.
