Well if that fool had on a cup like he should'a then you can call that a "close call" rather than a "missing ball".

Prolly did have a cup. Getting hit right there by a hard object moving 95mph, even a cup doesn't prevent agony.

Speaking of taking one for the team, last night at the Marlins vs Cardinals game, Marlins catcher John Buck took a fast ball bunt deflection to the balls. He was in the fetal position for about five minutes. I read this today:

Florida Marlins catcher John Buck has now broken two NuttyBuddies | Fish Tank blog: Florida Marlins | The Palm Beach Post

Quote:
Marlins catcher John Buck has broken two (cups) this year, the latest casualty coming last night when he was hit between the legs on a ball fouled off by Chris Carpenter during a bunt attempt.

The impact caused enough friction that part of his jockstrap melted or fused onto the cup.
P.S. - He managed to stay in the game. Lol

That was not quite a slump buster, but getting really, really close...

And for the first time in MLB history, the umpire called one pitch a ball and a strike at the same time...
