A progressive flat tax system that taxes all forms of income equally along with state sales taxes.
The overall tax burden should be lower and the government should perform less functions.

chicagofan...graduated income tax? Do you really think that just because people earn more money...they should be penalized by paying higher percentages? I truly don't understand the concept of punishing success by taking not only more...but a larger percentage from them. By doing so, this rewards failure. In order to promote success and growth...economic restrictions need to be lifted...one of these is of course, the graduated income tax.

New poll will be posted tomorrow when total votes reaches 30 (hopefully). So far its a really close battle between flat tax only, flat tax + sales tax, and sales tax only.

Performance Punishment. Isn't that the way of the world , especially the corporate world. So why not the Government.

I voted for a 10% flat tax yesterday because I think it's only fair everyone gets charged the same rate. I have never liked that the government punishes success.

I do think we need to keep sales tax with the flat tax though. Why not? Had that been an option, I might have created multiple BOC forum accounts just to overload that voting option.

Ill venture that Im one of the few people on the board thats actually getting creamed by the progressive taxation system. But yet Im still for it as the government needs a certain amount of money to actually perform its duties (those Stealth bombers aint free you know), and a flat tax would hurt the bottom rung workers too much. EVERYONE should pay some tax, so that everyone has a vested interest as to how the govt spends money, as opposed to simply voting themselves piles of entitlements. That and the government should stop trying to live everyones life for them, if some doofus cant make it on his own, sucks for him.

i do have a quick question though, from everything i have read, if there is a flat tax on everything, it would need to be closer to 20% versus the 10% you listed

I will address two points here...yours and the point about graduated income tax being necessary for our spending.

The idea is to REDUCE this excessive spending!! Not to keep making government bigger.

On the topic about stealth bombers....I'm afraid to say 2/3 of your tax dollars go towards entitlements....the other 1/3 is divvied up between services, roads, military, etc.

That means 66% of your money is going towards welfare, unemployment, medicare, medicaid, social security (yes I realize these are separate payments, but they also use federal income tax dollars as well) as well as all other welfare based programs.

Now don't go and say that i'm looking to take away people's social security and medicare...but I am saying that it should all be GRADUALLY phased out, and reduce the overall size of government while maintaining a VERY strong military and necessary services like fire rescue (however these would be handled independently by the states).
