I would love for my LCS to do a trade night where you come in and can trade amongst eachother but my LCS owner is too worried about making money and doesn't like it when people sell/trade amongst eachother.

when we get to the new shop we will probably do a trade night for football hockey and baseball...all on separate nights. And we will be partaking in it too.

From the LCS' that I have been to, these are the things that I really look for...

When I ask for a product, the LCS checks his distributors, finds the best price, and gets back to me without having me to keep reminding them about it.
They have up to date information on all the release dates, sell sheets, etc. for products coming out.
They let me know what new products have come in and what got restocked.

once you got a good group of regulars you could possibly have sign ups for group breaks in the shop. and perhaps an occasional midnight release for any big products you get a lot of preorders for. I remember going to a few for video game releases and it was fun

Yeah not many want to pre order just because when we buy stuff its months in advance that they usually dont want to tie up money. I want to get a good trade night going for sure though.

Pretty much everything I would want has been said, but in the end no matter how nice a store looks and how decent the prices are, if the customer service sucks, it can be a real turnoff. My favorite places have been ones where the owners or workers at least kind of knew who I was and knew my collecting habits. It's amazing how much a smile, a nice little conversation, and a thank you for your purchase goes when it comes to a customer wanting to comeback over and over again.

Well bensbff can vouch we are not grumpy and talk alot lol. We pretty much know what everyone collects unless they have only been in once or twice. Thank you for the comment!

I would think that it would be a place I can relax at.
I enjoy my lcs even though its not high end and its limited on wax.
I am friends with the owner and we bs about cards, life, females etc which is why I go.
Of course customer service is important but you need a hook for people to get excited to come back in. I would rather watch the game and eat a pizza (since your near an Italian place) and drink a beer over staying at home alone.
I would think if you have enough customers you could set up tvs with sports on the whole time. I would think to have monday night sunday night football PARTY with a special on FB wax would be great! FOOD, BEER, SPORTS, WAX, BETTING ON TEAMS and perhaps hire a wax assistant for the night.. A young hottie with a rack.. just make sure she does not know more about the sport then your customers.

I also enjoy pack or box dueling and if you had that 1-2x a month I would be there those days almost every month!

I bust a lot of wax for fun and 99% of the hits I leave at his LCS for him to sell for me or I send them off to get listed on ebay... Good service to offer and you can charge them a fee and give them in store credit so they have to spend the credit back at your store. (my guy charges 30% incl shipping paypal etc) He also does in store sales..
WHen I come back I have 200$ in credits and am happy to choose a free box of w/e to bust.

I would also think the option of vintage product at your store would be cool too.
Sometimes I am sick of whatever new product is out and its always nice to bust a 2004-2006 basketball box.
ALso the monthly meet up/trade night that we have they normally have a new product and give away a box or 2 of the new stuff. I unload some nice stuff and find some really nice hidden stuff.

Haven't read through the whole thread (sorry!)

- Have a computer w/ internet so you can look up any information any time you need to
- Have some kind of music (not annoying) or sports TV station playing (not too loud)
- Be nice to customers, even if they don't look like collectors! I was pretty upset to visit an LCS here only to have the owner treat me like I was dumb as a brick, I think because I am a female
- Have some kind of social stuff going on (eg. the trade nights as mentioned)
- Don't have too much empty space but if you have tonnes of boxes of unsorted cards you should have a bench/chair/couch so people can sit down and look through your stuff
- Invite me to your opening!
