As long as the stamps are not cancelled it is perfectly legal.

It's the post office's fault for being lazy.

I don't think so. The stamps have paid for a letter to go through the mail. Reusing them is not paying for the service.

Well, here's what happened.

I got a big yellow envelope which had about 7 or 8 stamps.

5 of the stamps had NOT been marked (in other words "clean"), I tried pulling them off and they came out easily and they were still "sticky".

I decided to reuse them.

Did I "Steal" $2.25???.....YES!

Am I proud???......Not really, but then again, it's $2.25!

Would I do it again???.....yeah, probably, it's the Post office fault (IMO) for not marking every stamp the way they are supposed to.

I was taking advantage of the situation, no harm no foul.

You go into it acknowledging it's not right. Boston up there said there is no legal problem with it and he is wrong.

Just to be picky with your post, "no harm no foul." There is harm and it is a foul.

Does stealing stamps constitute mail fraud? I know it's only $2.25...

Well yeah, I guess you're right.

I "Stole" $2.25 from USPS....like I said, I'm not really proud about it.

Then again, I can count MANY....MANY times that USPS has either lost my mail or delivered it very late.

By my "Karma count"....USPS still owes me a lot of money

I reuse what I can and for trades for sure. If its business (ie ebay) if I'm charging for shipping and supplies then thats a customer and I'm not willing to risk loosing a customer over the 0.08 as most do expect when your charging 2.50-2.75 to ship basic minimums. I'm not going to judge someone on if they used a used mailer or not, I'm more intersted in getting the card I paid for safe and sound, but with ebay and all of its goofy quirks...I could easily loose a star or two and then very much effects your sales.

Those that are destined for a new life I actually cut into strips and use for extra protection on cards that I'm shipping out. A 000 mailer typically makes 3-4 of these (and also typically makes a nice spot to put thanks and your username)
