I love Steak'n Shake for a cheap, quick meal...usually get two Frisco Melts, fries, and a shake.

It's not THAT cheap unless you have coupons.. Every time I am there I drop at least 12 bucks on myself alone.. Not too cheap for a "fast food" type place.

P.S. Try the Frisco Melt.. AMAZING

It was pretty cheap me and my friend got bbq burger fries and drink plus tip for $18. Flirted with the waitress and got free drinks to go. Ran out of hours so were actually parked out front in the street in Missouri for a few more hours.

I agree with this post.

I actually worked at one here in Nashville for a few years as a server. For the price point, it isnt as great as it seems. Maybe its just me, but the "burger patties" are just too small for me. They are also like the movie theaters and BIG on "upselling" (asking you if you want the "platter" with 2 sides..if you want tomato it was extra 10 cents...cheese extra 50 cents...cheese sauce extra 75 cents).

You wouldnt think it, but it was a surprising place to make $$$ waiting tables. I just always hated the stupid "carry the drink tray" with you to every table, even if it was empty.

I will agree Frisco is the way to go. Their Spicy Chicken sandwich was usually pretty good as well.

Also...their shakes are hand dipped (not from some shake machine like Wendys/Mcds or anybody else) so thats always a plus.

Was that Hot Doug's or Wiener's Circle?

Hot Doug's is a total pain in the ass, always a line out the door and he keeps banker's hours. Wiener's Circle is easy.

When I lived in Chicago we always went to Steak-n-Shake after drinking way to much!!! Also I found one a little closer to me now, when I was in Vegas last year they put one in the South Point Hotel!

I didn't have Steak N' Shake until I moved to Atlanta and absolutely love it. Probably my favorite Burger chain/ fast food place these days, with Checkers being 2nd and Hardees being 3rd.

White Castle isn't a Destination, it's more like a Dare.

Are you still in Chicago? You have to go to Al's Beef. They have delicious roast beef sandwiches. Also, like others have said Hot Doug's is a pain and might not be worth the wait. You have to time it so you're hungry 30-45 mins after you step in line. Go all out and order multiple hot dogs.

I love Steak n Shake. I used to go there all the time when I was stationed on the East Coast. I've never seen one out here.

If that's the one on 122nd street, see if you can get to Jim's Original at 16 East 95th St for a Polish.

I first had Steak and Shake my freshman year of college, as they don't exist back east. I had chicken tenders and the fries and thought it was pretty lame.

Next time I went though I had a frisco melt and a vanilla chocolate side by side. And then I loved Steak and Shake.

The frisco melt has to be, hands down, one of the best fast food options in the world. It is so damn tasty...that sauce is just unbelievable.
