Finally out....

BUT I have to go back tomorrow. I was not interviewed by the lawyers and judge during the selection process so I go back.

Don't bathe or brush your teeth tonight or in the morning tomorrow and it'll be a short interview.

I'm not talking about a day or two. What happens if it stretches to a week, month, etc?

I know my employee handbook says they will cover up to 5 days after that it is not necessarily guaranteed.

And my comment was a generalization, not my personal situation.

Many jury trials only last a day or two and most jury trials don't last more than a week. I can understand not wanting to serve on one of the rarer ones that lasts a long period of time, but those are the exception and not the rule. Plus, from what I've seen, anyone with a full time job is going to be excused from a lengthy jury trial because nobody's goal is to get people fired or cause them a financial hardship.

Because so many jury trials are very short, I took your comment to mean that you (or people in general) are above taking a day or two out of your life to serve on a jury. Obviously I misunderstood your post. My bad.

I have never been called for jury duty, and I never will. I know the secret to not being selected.

Subscribing to ladyboy porn will not keep you from being selected. That's just an urban legend.

A couple of Jury Duty Stories...

Back about five years ago I got a Jury Duty Summons, put in my computer bag and then completely forgot about it. They do keep track of the no shows so I got a more aggressive summons to show up around 1:00pm. They led about five us into the back of the court room and made us watch a couple hours of boring court motions. After they were finished the judge called us up and said this time you need to show up! I signed up and got called a couple of weeks later to the jury room where the entire room was dismissed.

In 1992 just after the Clarence Thomas/Anita Hill Trial I was selected for a jury on a Sexual Harrassment case of a Busty 40 something woman working a trucking company versus a Five Foot Three 74 year old man. It was six days of testimony from truck drivers repeating the jokes that were supposedly told. It was hard not to laugh out loud. I was selected foreman of the jury and we ended up finding the guy guilty of two lesser counts. We then deliberated about how much money to award the plaintiff. Her lawyer suggested $2 million dollars. For an hour we were oh so close to giving her $1.00 I kid you not. Turns out she got $25,000 for putting her life on hold for four years.
