I like this idea a lot. No film from the past 15 years has aged more gracefully than the original LOTRs, which is an absolute wonder considering all the CGI elements. This will be another stunning trilogy. Martin Freeman is awesome and I am absolutely PUMPED to have this in three installments. That means three years waiting for one film, seeing it, and desperately pining away for the next one. Should be good fun!

As the nerds mostly agreed when this was a rumor last week, we can't ever have too much story set in Middle Earth.

WOW.....I thought it would only be 2 movies at most.

TBH, I'm not sure if it should be 3....that seems a bit long!

What's the +/- on number of hours spent walking? I'll go with 6.

Heh

One theory is that the two movies were clocking in at 3 hours each so Jackson would prefer to go 3 x 2 hours...

Why get only 2 films worth of box office when you can go for 3?

I really like Fellowship and Return of the King, but Two Towers was a waste of time. I'm hoping all 3 of these new films are awesome.

Definitely favorite movies of all time, and now my favorite book is becoming it's own trilogy! Peter Jackson's adaptation will be nothing less than spectacular!! But I think one of the appeals of the LOTR movies was the length. Made the movies feel even more epic. I hope he can somehow make this book into three 3 hour films. I'll be at the midnight premiere of all three though!

I think the Two Towers was amazing, better than Fellowship, just as good as Return of the King.

In the grand scheme of the trilogy, most of it was pointless. The first 1/2 hour and the tower coming down was all that was necessary. The battle looked great, but was a total waste of time.

The Hobbit is such a boring book. I'm not expecting much from this film, and I'm a huge Peter Jackson fan.
