Default Need help with an ebay buyer

I had a buyer just contact me that a card I had sold to him has a severely damaged corner and wants to know what I will do about it. The card was in mint condition when I mailed it in a penny sleeve, toploader and team bag mailed in a bubble mailer. What I believe the problem is that the price he bought the card for is about $30 more than the price they are currently selling for and is hoping I will give him a refund. Any suggestions on what I should do?

here is the scan that he sent me that supposedly "shows the damage" Please lmk if you see anything that looks like damage.

Ask him to send a pic of the card to show the damage. That way you can see if it really is damaged. He might not be willing to send the pic because it really isn't damaged, he's just trying to scam you. Though if it is damaged you have to wonder what the world has come to where people are willing to damage a perfectly good card to save money. What was the card BTW?

it was a topps signature JJ Hickson auto/125. For a few days, they were selling for around 70-75, now the last 2 have sold for 40ish and I think the price is only going to drop from there.

You have a right to be skeptical considering the price drop like that...Buyer's remorse is not uncommon.

I know this doesn't help in this situation, but anything I sell over $20 or so, I film the condition of the card, as well as myself packing the card in the sleeve, top load, team bag, and bubble mailer. That way, I can SHOW proof of card condition if I absolutely have to in a situation such as this.

True. If the card is defective, he doesn't want it. Don't refund him and let him keep the card too.

I went through the same situation about a year ago. I told the buyer to send me the card back and I would refund his money when I received the card. I never heard from him again.

To be honest, he has you by the short hairs. I'd have him send you a scan of the damaged card. If its damaged, work with the guy. If its not, your ok until he files a paypal claim. Your responsible for the card until they get it, if it arrives damaged your the one that gets the shaft, not the buyer for not paying for insurance. Once he files that, he'll have to return the card to you and you'll end up refunding the money paypal freezes in your account. This is the biggest scam on ebay and I really wish ebay/paypal would really step up and help fix this issue.

Also, would I have any luck with paypal if he did file a claim since I dont see any damage to the card from the scan he took of it? Would I be able to show them the scan to show that it is not damaged like he claimed?

Do NOT give any partial refunds.

If he doesn't want the card have him ship it back to you and if I were you I would open it in front of a postal employee or the manager if they are willing.

This guy is just looking for some of his $$ back. Buyers remorse.

If it is indeed "dinged" there is nothing you can do.

check the scan of the card that he took where he claims it shows it is dinged and lmk if you see anything wrong with the card. I personally dont want to issue a refund because I sold it for a good price.

That scan may help you, but I think even with a claim, he can send it back to you and you'll be forced to refund him his money. However, I'd ask him to point out the damage he's referring to as the card looks to be at least near mint. If he still continues to complain, have him file the claim. Doesnt sound all that good to be honest. Even if he keeps the card, he may ding your DSR's.

he told me the bottom right hand corner was dinged, which I can not see even if I am looking for it. I would be cool if he just dinged my DSR's, I dont want to give him a refund because I know the card is not damaged and he is just upset he paid what he did since the prices have since dropped signifacntly. Should I communicate with him anymore or just wait for him to file a claim?

Do not issue a refund then.

Let him file a dispute then it is on him to send you the card back.

If you post his user ID we can all block him.

You as a seller have ZERO rights with ebay. Let him file and if he does then you receive the card back. When you do he gets his $$ back.

THis is happening more and more.

PLEASE list his ID

Here is a blowup of the scan. There MIGHT be a little tag-like issue with the bottom right corner.
Use this picture when talking to Ebay/paypal.

Picture on left from your auction. On right the card he received.
These are 2 different cards. If the one on the left is a stock photo you used and not a scan of the actual
Card you sent you will lose any claim. If the card on the left is the actual card you can show this to paypal and ebay and they SHOULD side with you.

I took the card on the left from an auction that sold for $75 and the seller was in NC.
