Default Hurricane isaac is on the way

Here in new orleans everybody is going crazy getting ready for the hurricane. Gas stations are running out of gas and grocery stores are emptying shelves. I have been put on standby through wendsday. Is this affecting anybody else?

If it was Earthquakes in FL, AL, and LA and Hurricanes in CA I'd be worried.

After watching how the people around here are acting you would think the world is ending.

I hope it's not too bad....

I don't think I could stomach a telethon with Kanye West saying "Barack Obama doesn't care about black people."

Stay safe OP! I went to school in NOLA and have a lot of friends that still live there. I know a couple of them got time off from work already. Tulane is shutting down it's campus at 5 PM today I think.

Luckily I was not there when Katrina hit. But I did visit the city a couple of years after the hurricane and couldn't believe how bad some of the areas looked.

Is this storm worse than Katrina because I heard it was stationary and caused some levees to break

It amazes me having been to New Orleans and knowing the general layout, that there would not have been a mandatory evacuation of Plaquemines Parish!
I know for the most part the winds are not as 'severe' as a Cat. 1 Hurricane, but when you are as exposed as this Parish to storm surge, and have a predicated rainfall of 12+ inches, what would you have expected?
I would think after Katrina the Emergency Mgmt. folks would have been very cautious as to who would be allowed to remain, and now you have people on rooftops needing to be rescued in this particular Parish with about 40% of this storm actually having occured.

this is not as bad as katrina, it is a very slow moving storm. the eye is over gray right now which is about 30-40 miles south of where im at. we will get our biggest hit later today. we lost power around 3 am, we are running on generators. we had 4 trees fall this morning 2 fell on my fence none hit my house. if you see it on tv we are in mandeville. the levee was topped in braithewaithe southeast of new orleans. its pretty rough around here.

Stay safe as it looks like there are tornados around Gulfport & Biloxi, with the general NO area in an alert. Also it seems you are going to have an additional 4-6inches of rain over the next few hours which is just insane!

God Bless, I hope that system get's moving so you get out of that torrential rain. Reports out of Plaquemines Parish say that the flooding is worse than Katrina, which is hard to believe!

I went to high school in Gray and my home is about 3 miles from there. Stressing out looking at the news.

Still waiting for the storm to get north of Hwy 90 so I can go home.

Good luck, I hope the rain slows down for ya, but watching the Weather Channel you are just getting the back 'band of the storm' so it looks like you will see increased wind and I can't believe it possible even more rain!

I hope your home stays dry,and you get through this #@#@#@#@!!!

Charleston pretty much flooded yesterday. My sister has 2 - 3 inches of standing water in her car, haha. All I did was change my route to work and I was fine. I did see a dumpster floating down the street though!
