Default Ps3 Question

I got a Ps3 from a friend, who used HDMI cables. I am trying to use the standard cables (AVI) and it's not showing up on my tv. Is this a setting I need to change since he used the HDMI cables? Thanks.

HDMI is the only way to go with PS3. I used to work at Gamestop, had to have 5-6 people a week after release say they didn't want the system anymore because the games are almost unplayable with regular AV. Any subtitles on games/movies are so blurry its almost unreadable, and it doesn't do any of the games justice.

If you are deadset on AV, I think there maybe a setting on the PS3 itself, but I am not sure off the top of my head. Also check the cord to make sure they aren't frayed.

Make sure the system is off.

Hold down the Power Button for 5-6 seconds - until you hear the second beep.

That's it, your video settings are reset and you should be able to choose your input and configure it from there.

Well thats the issue. Sony seemed to assume everyone would have an HDTV. When we asked the rep about the issue and what we should say to customers about it the first time he stopped in after release, his answer was to say something to the effect of "sorry, its a high definition system".

The system is built for HD. You are not forced to buy it if you don't have an HDTV. If a car only comes in diesel, it's not the fault of the manufacturer if you only have gasoline available to you.

I have a PS3 and a 360... PS3 is far superior and well worth picking up a low end flat screen for it.. you can probably get a 20-30 inch for under $300

Yea, which is why all of those people returned their PS3 and bought a 360, made the PS3 get horribly beat in sales for the first 6 months to a year, lack of game selection and lack of non HD graphics really killed it.

Killed implies dead. Sales are well in the success column now. Yes, on release etc. but technology moves fast and years ago was centuries ago.

To imply that Sony is being remiss in 2012 (almost 2013) for demanding that their premiere box be used only on HDTVs is backward.

In no way did I imply any of that. If you would actually re-read my post(s), I am talking about what happened at release for the PS3, and not 2012.

PS3 sales are fine now. AT RELEASE this was a problem. If talking about Graphics, PS3 is better, but if talking graphics in regular AV Definition, Xbox has the edge.

You might have to switch the source on your TV. But i suggest you get a HDMI.

they often sell them at BJ's or Costco or your local wholesale club for like $10-15 (that are brand name, like phillips or GE etc.

The PS3 works fine on an SDTV with the AV Cables.

I've heard much different from a lot of other people. It works, just doesn't look good at all. Tried it myself, was almost impossible to read subtitles.

Besides, the box was a premiere Blu-ray player on release, the best BD player on the market. Imagine customers using it for that on an SD television. Yikes.

Precisely, had a customer or 2 "complain" about that. Amazing that people will spend 500 dollars on something, and have no idea how it works.

It works fine with SDTV with the AV Cables.

BUT, some games don't.

For Example: Call of Duty looks great.

But when I play any sports games it looks weird.
I play on a 40inch HD TV...

For pure gaming 360 is the way to go I only use my ps3 for blu ray movies. IMHO live is a much better online gaming system although you have to pay for it.

EXACTLY!! People didn't realize what they were getting into with the system. I bought the release model when it first came out and it still works perfectly. When I travel I take it with me and have hooked it up to hundreds of SD TV's and never had an issue. You can even watch blue rays in standard definition if you want. The origional release models had backwards compatibility so my son buys tons of old PS2 games and plays them all the time. By far the greatest gaming system I have owned.
