Laptop fied on me again, recommend a new one...

I either have bad luck or what. I am now in the market for a new one. I know that HP is crap so recommend me a good one to pick up. I still have my desktop but I wanna pick up something that is reliable, cheap, and good for watching movies and will last longer than a year. I've been through about 4 different ones in 4 years. Two HP's which overheat, and a cheap Asus that stopped charging for some reason. Maybe it's time to switch over to Apple.

Apple all the way.
have had a mac and after about 7-8 years we got new laptops. have an HP and will never buy another non apple computer again. HP are pieces of crap, overheats on me all the time and such.

Im in the middle of saving up for a 27" IMac right now, gnna be a great day when I can get it!

What the hell do people do to their laptops?!

I have not had a single one fail and I have had quite a few of them (just changed due to them being obsolete and slow).

Right now, I am on an M11x Alienware and it is pretty nice for the price (got it for $600).

Yeah, the only problem I have with Apple is the price. But I have used up 3 different HP's in 4 years so I can say that their stuff sucks. I have resisted Apple for so long but I may have to make the switch now. Overheating and such.

seriously though, if you have a desktop and the laptop is for occasional use (checking the forums, emails, playing games) get an iPad.

black friday. I have an HP but I have had more problems with their deals and "not getting the rebates" ect.... than with the computer. I won't buy again just for that reason.

Yeah I have everything apple except for laptop or desktop. But there shut the #@#@#@#@ up will last years

I have an HP laptop and this piece of crap overheats so much I want to get a new laptop on black friday but have no idea how to transfer stuff from this one to the new one. I don't need to transfer much just documents and itunes. Like if I play 2 different videos at the same time or if I play a video while on webcam it overheats and shuts off.

If all you would use it for is watching movies and email/Internet, an Apple laptop is a waste of money.

I've had an Acer for nearly 2 years as my only computer - I've put it through hell and back, and it still runs decently.

Exactly how mine is. But as to transfer do you have a external hard drive? They have those which you can store everything on your computer on and put it onto anything. They are so if anything happens to your laptop its always there

I'm gonna get one then just move the files over to it then to the new laptop. Easiest way I can think of to transfer stuff. It's also a good thing to get a new laptop if you think about it because then you can leave all the crap that you don't want on your old one and start fresh

I dislike Dell almost as much as Apple but the low end Dell laptop I have has worked flawlessly for 3 years now. Only thing I'm looking for when I upgrade is what can I get for under $500...paid under $400 for the junk I have now.

If I want speed, I'll build a new tower and it will dominate all. (Well, all except the Maximum PC dream build...no way I'm spending $15k on a computer)

Surprised your Dell has lasted as long as it has, as they are pretty much the poorest built computer on the market, at least their consumer-based models.

Sony is as overpriced as Apple, but their build quality is definitely better than most.

OP, as Nic said, if you're a casual user, the iPad would be your best route. If you need a computer for schoolwork or Office applications, an HP or Lenovo would fit the bill, without breaking the bank. If you're looking for graphic/web design and video/photo editing, a Mac is pretty much the best choice. I only suggest you don't simply jump on the Apple bandwagon cause it's trendy, cause paying the extra 3 or 4 hundred dollars for trendy just isn't worth it, in my opinion.

Yeah, I like the sony laptops I just cant justify the cost for what I do with the laptop these days.

I am surprised as well. I think I paid under $400.

All I really use it for is surfing the web and MUDding (SlothMUD). I had a database for my cards but since I found Zistle, I just use that.

not a bad deal.... you can get these for about $40 more easily from places like Newegg (don't know how reputable dailysteals is)...
