When looking up the problem earlier I did read something about a connector at the top of the keyboard becoming loose or being pinched or something. Don't know if it's something the OP can look at or if it's just not worth the bother on a years old cheapo laptop.

I've had the same problem. To be honest, it did it once and it pissed me off so I 'tapped' the screen with my fingers and it worked again. Not sh*ttin' you. Whenever it goes white, either tap the screen a few times, or move the screen forward/backward. I'm sure this is probably messing up my laptop, but that's what works for me.
