My computer screen will fade to a white screen and until it is completely white. It does it all the time when I am on it and is now doing it to the point I can rarely use my laptop it does it so much. When it does the fading I am unable to do anything as cursor and such wont move. anyone know what to do for this?

My guess (im not computer tech) would be a problem in the monitor or graphics card.

what a bunch of goofballs...
OP: What brand is the laptop? This sounds to me like some sort of power saving thing (opposite of screen dimming when computer is not in use), or light sensing issue... Last edited by Nicnac; 10-04-2012 at 02:38 PM. |

I had a similar issue.. but in opposite (kept going black)... Is your computer a gateway/acer model?
What I found out in my case is the lights inside the monitor were burning out.. making the screen dimmer and dimmer over time. This was 5-6 years ago so it may be a similar issue with a different manifestation. I sent it in for repair and got it back within a week.

now that I actually read the thread, I'll chime in
Macs are awesome and I wish i had one but o well. I have an hp pavilion dv6 that came out last year. same one as yours but yours is obviously older. for the crap you would possibly have to do and fix to get it working again is not worth the money. Most computers don't last long, excepts for macs. So if you got 4 years out of that, bravo. get a new one, laptops are cheap these days but work great as long as you take care of them. and yeah, that's one of the signs that your laptop is about to sh!t, next will be the hard drive.

think of it like a battery.. even nearly dead batteries work for a moment before shutting down.. who knows though.. good luck in figuring it out. 100% sounds like a hardware issue so you could probably look into buying a new monitor not a new lap top as a whole.
