anybody an expert on external hard drives as they relate to DISH and Direct TV?
just copied about 800 hours of programming from Dish DVR to our external hard drive in anticipation of switching to direct tv.
direct tv came today and was clueless about whether the EHD would be compatible (their sales guy on the phone said it would be no problem)
we didn't sign anything - read tonight that we could lose everything on the EHD if we hook it into the Direct DVR - also read it BECOMES the DVR if we hook it in. Neither of those options is acceptable for us.
1.) anyone know for sure if it is compatible without losing stuff with direct tv?
2.) if not, can we still get our programming from the EHD back if we go back to DISH even though we had our service turned off last night? (and even though the EHD was plugged into the direct tv DVR tonight? - although it was not recognized)
3.) what about ability to copy to my laptop? is the EHD able to do that and, if so, can i copy to laptop and then recopy somehow to direct tv dvr?
thx - need to know by tomorrow at 1:00 as direct tv is coming back to "resolve" or pull the equipment.
