where has customer service gone?

so lately I have either had some really bad luck or some employee's are just getting more and more lazy. I have called and emailed several gun stores about handguns and I stay professional in them and have questions and the gun I am looking at is roughly $550.00 yet I get no response from over half of them, I would think that these places would give a call back or a reply to an email.

Then today at the store I went to wholesale sports to check out the price on the gun im looking at (I figured it may be a few bucks cheaper at a bigger store like that) and after ten minutes of waiting this kid walks up behind me and happens to be friends with the employee so when the employee finally walks over he helps his friend who had just walked in, (he saw me at the counter the whole time) so I leave irritated then the manager asked me if I find everything all right and I told him that the employee just cost the company about $550.00 (plus tax) because of his little stunt. They offered me $5.00 off a box of ammo if I bought the gun today which I told them im going else where and the kid should be fired on the spot.

Finally my dad plans on extending his deck at his house and the roof too which he got a few quotes and he called one guy after he got the quote and asked when he could start the work yet he never replied to anything so he turned down an expensive job (I didn't ask my dad how much but well over 8k) what is up now with customer service? People have bad attitudes and do not want to work it seems like. Luckily I found a couple of gun shops that the employee's wanted to answer all my questions and needless to say are actually cheaper some of the other places.

For corporations, I understand. Comcast, AT&T, etc don't really have to provide good customer service for their business models to succeed.

Small businesses like you are talking about... I don't know.

I agree with you about the customer service, its horrible. The second paragraph though, from my experience that is just the way contractors are. Its amazing.

what kind of gun are you shopping for bud?

originally I was looking at the springfield xd 9mm or any glock (the sheriff's department is finishing up my background check) and after talking to numerous gun stores (the ones that help me anyways) I have decided to go with a glock I am not sure if I want the 22 or 23 both are .40 cal while the 23 has a little bit better features than the 22, the 22 just feels better in my hands and I feel more comfortable with it. (im pretty sure thats the one im getting) it also has to be a generation 3 as I do not like the grips at all on the generation 4.

Also I had another ordeal with tmobile (which is why I asked what cell phone plans people use a few weeks back) they are trying to charge me an extra $60.00 for internet on my phone which I do not even have a phone that can connect to the internet, then they claim it is a third party that is doing it. The guy told me he would rather me pay the extra money and lose me as a 9 year customer than to just waive the fee (and this was a very high rank manager calling the corprate offices)

edit- I may go with the glock for on duty and also purchase the springfield xd for off duty, I have never shot a springfield before but I did like the size of it and the feel of it for concealed carry, I also have heard that the ruger triggerless 38 special is great for concealed carry off duty and a lot of officers purchase that as a gun for off duty carry, my stepdad just purchased one and I need to take it out and try it. I have called numerous gun ranges to see if they carry them and rent them (the springfield xd) so I can try it not one single one called me back or emailed me back. (which is another reason I made the thread)

In the middle of '08 I had canceled a sirius radio that my mom didnt listen to. That left me with 2 subs and my gf with 1. I had one at home and one at work and my gf had one in her car.

In december my work radio started acting up so I thought Id check with them to see what deals they had for the holidays etc.

I found out that they never truly canceled the one radio. I take partial responsibility in that I didnt pay attn to my cc bill to see it was still being charged for etc.

They admitted that I called to cancel it but they claimed I didnt "confirm" which was crap. I told them flat out if they didnt give a credit on those months charged, I was willing to cancel my 3 subs and never come back. I even told them I was guranteed to have those radios for as long as Howard was at sirius and if over 5 years of sub payments wasnt worth canceling out and crediting the 60.00 then thats on them. They called my bluff. Canceled and confirmed all radios canceled and never went back.

A blessing in disguise because after '09 Howard has gone to sh*t.

I'm guessing that customer service has been outsourced like so many other jobs. It's either that or the stores just don't hire people with common sense & common courtesy!

It has gone somewhere, anytime I go into any type of store I feel like im causing a problem in there because people do not want to help, they make me feel like im an inconvenience to them.

i'll tell you, if you've got a manager that really cares about CSV (Customer Service Values) then the office will follow suit. I did tech support for the University of Cincinnati while I was in grad school, and our manager was big on CSV. If somebody was shitty to a user, they got warned and then canned the next time.

the management really sets the tone.

When I worked at a store out of high school the managers were high on customer service because there bonus was based on it. I do always get helped right away in office depot as well.

truth, but those managers have a stake in it so they'll either train it properly or take care of their employees. the best managers i've had took us workers out to eat once in a while, or had employee appreciation events yada yada yada.
