Default Do they still make somewhat normal televisions?

Our 27' Sony from the late 90s is just about gone! We watch tv in the evenings and when the niece and nephew are here on the weekends, so I don't really need to replace it with some really sexy, high tech expensive something. Other than maybe with computers, I'm not really into all of the "extras" that a lot of tvs probably have these days. The kids wanna watch cartoons, the wife wants to watch the lifetime movie, food network and the tattoo shows occasionally. For me it's sports or whatever is on if I happen to be in the room. Any suggestions and help is appreciated!

I don't think they make new televisions like that anymore. But if you go to any of the basic Target/Best Buy/Walmart type places a new flat screen tv just isn't that expensive anymore. You should be able to find a 27" tv for $250-300 fairly easily, and maybe even a little cheaper if you dont' care what the brand name is.

No more TVs with the huge back (tube) like you're thinking, but the lower end flat screens aren't expensive at all.

If you can wait a month, you can pick up a decent one on black Friday for next to nothing probably

The issue for me is my kids get...wild at times.
I purchased 5 32" flat screens last year and 1 has taken a dive and another seemed incapable of withstanding an XboX controller hitting it at 30 MPH or more.
While I agree a nice 17 foot thick TV is more durable, used is the only way to obtain one right now
Hence me mentioning Craigslist.
Craigslist is very viable since people are upgrading left and right to flat screens and unloading their older TVs

Check your local thrift stores. As people move to flat screens there are tube tv's for super cheap available. Just make sure they have the remote and the connections you need.

I would go to a pawn shop before a thrift store.
Pawnshops will lowball people hard on older TVs and it will have to be 100% working before they would touch it.

I had been looking up black friday ads and best buy and target will be doing price matches online so if you can wait a little bit you may get that. I didn't see how much shipping or anything like that was but it may be worth a look.

Thanks everyone! Great ideas here. I'm not wanting a tube tv specifically, I just don't care about spending a lot on the bells and whistles some new technology usually has that to me are not going to be needed.

Doesn't matter about the bells and whistles. As some have said in here, you can buy a decent sized flat screen for $350 - $400 dollars...

If the problem is your kids will break it, the problem is your kids, not that the TV is too fancy...

Don't ask me how much I want to offer. Come with a price in mind. If I don't want it or think it's worth that, I will let you know.
