With the "Frankenstorm" hitting last night and this morning, I figured I'd pose the question to you folks: what's the craziest weather you've lived through? If it is Hurricane Sandy, then post that; it was pretty insane!
I'll start: A few years back Ottawa got hit with two feet of snow over the course of a week in March (including 1 1/2 feet over 2 days!). Took me 2 hours to shovel all of the snow!

Not sure if this counts as weather but I've lived through both San Diego County wildfires. Got a week off of school both times because of the smoke spreading all across the county due to winds. Fortunately we live near the coast so neither fire really threatened our house. Not long after the second one my college Biology class had a field trip out East to the desert and we had to drive through where the fires were. Very sad lots of scorched earth and piles of ashes that used to be houses.

Over the summer, it was 100+ degrees, and I was playing a double header in a baseball tournament and the games were 15 minutes apart. Total lenth of the combined game 6 hours and total combined score: 1-27, we lost both games lol

Haven't had a huge weather problem but about 6 years ago we got a couple feet of snow then freezing rain on top of it and as I was driving home from work this A-hole in a brand new escalade thought he was hot stuff so he was doing about 80 MPH sticking his hand out the window waving at people and then about 7 miles up the freeway I see his car overturned in the ditch just totaled. Needless to say I saw him walking around fine so I stuck my hand out the window and waved to him. I think I got called every name in the book and then some.

I got hit by a piece of hail the size of a marble once. Does that count?

One day in Oklahoma City, it was hot and dry in the morning... around noonish it snowed with snow on the ground. By 4pm, the snow was all melted the heat returned, and it rained.
Besides that, once, also in OKC, the wife and I parked the car and watched a tornado drop out of the clouds, do it's business, go back up, and move along. "Okay, we can go home now." Ummm then there was Wilma going over our heads. We left the house for the gorgeous sunny calm of the eye, then retreated for the second act. |

The blizzard of 78. Check this puppy out. I was 16 at the time. The most I have seen after this was a Spring storm in March of 2004. We received over 36" in 3 days with that one.

I talked about this in another thread but...
During Hurricane Wilma (2005's forgotten storm after Katrina) I went out in the thick of it. I saw a tree branch against my neighbors car and decided to help them out. While pulling it off their car a stop sign came flying at me at 80-90mph and literally came within a foot of taking my head off. Not sure if it would have gotten hit if I didn't duck, but it was a close one.

I was in lower Alabama when Katrina hit and we were without power for a week but the picture below is from when I was in Iraq and a huge sandstorm came through that lasted about 20 mins. During that time it also decided to rain so it turned into a mud storm. When it finally passed everything had orange mud plastered all over it. It looked like the biggest pottery accident of all time...anyways the weirdest thing was watching the storm come at us (that's why we took pics) it was a good hour after we first saw it that it finally hit us.....

My folks took me and my brothers to a doubleheader (remember those???) against Oakland at Tiger Stadium at some time from 1979 to 1982. I can't remember the year. Anyway, halfway through the second game, something felt out of whack. Everyone in the crowd was looking at each other trying to figure out what was going on but nobody could figure out.
The next day we learned an earthquake hit in Kentucky and the effects could be felt all the way up to Detroit. I've lived in Michigan my entire life and that was the only earthquake I have ever felt.

Not sure if many of you are old enough to remember, or even lived in the area, but the one that will always go down in my book as the "I remember where i was" storm...The Halloween Blizzard of 1991, how fitting today! almost all of Minnesota and western Wisconsin received over 3 feet of snow from Oct 31-Nov 3! With southern Minnesota not getting much snow due to higher temps, but got 3-4inches of solid ice. Neededless to say it was quite interesting trick-or-treeting that first night! We also missed the whole week of school!

Hurricane Diana - 1984, SE North Carolina. Dad packed the family up, and we drove to Raleigh. Diana made landfall, and headed north, so we came home. After we got home, the storm did a full circle and hit us again. It was the last time we bothered to evacuate for a storm.

We live about 3 miles south of where the F5 tore through North Alabama last April. We live right on the eastern side of a small mountain, which effectively blocked us from it. Without power for a week, so we drove up to Louisville and stayed with some friends for a few days.

I remember when I was like six, Utah got hit with three feet of snow in two days. We made tunnels through our front yard, it was fun. Never seen snow like that before. Also a friend and i went to a movie, walked in with no snow on the ground and no clouds in sight. Hour and a half later when the movie was over, walked out to six inches. We were so confused, put down a foot of snow that night, best day of snowboarding.
