Has anyone seen RUSH on their current Clockwork Angels tour? (I know whywhy and a few other members were going to.) If so, what are your thoughts on the setlist, the stage set-up, the string section during the second half, etc.?
Personally, I love the setlist. I think the new stuff sounds so much fuller and dynamic with the live strings, and the amount of '80s synth-era material that dominates the first set is great (4 total songs from Power Windows??? HECK YEAH!). It's also great because it's NOT just a boring, hits-heavy set designed for the casual concertgoer. They've got a "Night A" and "Night B" alternating setlist, swapping out a few songs. With my two shows, Bridgeport and Buffalo, I got the Night A both times (with a one-off playing of "Limelight" replacing "The Body Electric" in Buffalo last week). Instead of one big drum solo, Neil has three mini-solos spread out through the show (two being in the middle of songs). Geddy sounds better vocally on this tour than on either of the previous two (Time Machine and Snakes & Arrows). Night A setlist: Subdivisions The Big Money Force Ten Grand Designs The Body Electric (Limelight on 10/26 in Buffalo) Territories Analog Kid Bravado Where's My Thing? (w/ drum solo) Far Cry (intermission) Caravan Clockwork Angels The Anarchist Carnies The Wreckers Headlong Flight (w/ drum solo) Halo Effect Seven Cities of Gold The Garden Manhattan Project 'The Percussor' (drum solo) Red Sector A YYZ The Spirit of Radio Tom Sawyer 2112 (Overture/Temples/Grand Finale) Changes for Night B shows: -Middletown Dreams replaces The Body Electric -The Pass replaces Bravado -Wish Them Well replaces Seven Cities of Gold -Dreamline replaces Manhattan Project My only complaint is that I thought it was kind of depressing that at the end of the awesome Clockwork Angels suite, the first two "old" songs afterward were about the atomic bomb (MP) and concentration camps (RS A). Nonetheless, it's a great show. If you were hoping to just hear Freewill, Red Barchetta, The Trees, Closer to the Heart, etc., just stay home. Or, actually, go anyway. It'll open your ears to some amazing songs you never knew existed.
