Well WE own 2 cars.

I drive the 35MPG car beacuse I work 40 miles from home.
She drives the SUV because she works 4 miles from home.

Let's not get the panties in a bunch. I just don't understand how the different accounts would work.

Everything I make, save for $20/wk goes into out checking and savings account. The other $20 goes into my "gift" account so when I buy her Birthday and X-Mas gifts she can't see the purchases on the credit card and spoil the surprise.

The "gift" account is also where my poker bankroll is kept. This was started with $100 in 2003 with the agreement that no family funds would ever be put in there and used after the $100.

I just don't understand the "yours, mine and ours" mindset when you are married.

Thats just me.

The only way my wife would look at a card is if I bought that Twilight crap... Did I say crap, I mean that interesting vampire / changeling series.

My wife has bought one gift ( a complete set of Topps Baseball) that was card related in our 15 years of marriage. I've made up for it though with over 1000 Larkins

BTW... You'd think I'd have some great tools or something but No. I had to tell her to quit buying me SHOES!! LOL

My girlfriend refers to anything sports related as "Nerd Stuff". She thinks that I am so obsessed with sports and anything related that qualifies as a nerd. Not so much the thing I'm addicted to, just the obsession.

That being said, she told me that she never wants me to give anything up because it makes me happy. All the fantasy sports teams, all the cards, she doesn't really mind so much. Although recently we've found out that we are going to be having a little girl come January, and she mentioned that I should slow down, to which I agreed to.

To add to the other post, I told her that I am two wins away from winning $240 for my fantasy baseball league. She is all about that! I told her that I would buy her a Wii if I did.... if not, its going on the baby registry!

My g/f loves to rip product with me. Well she loves to rip hockey product with me. She doesn't care for other sports cards. She inists that if I buy cards I have to buy her something as well.

ie: Her(MY) Martin St. Louis Collection

I just added something new to "the" collection. I will post a scan up later tonight.

She hates that I spend soo much money on "1 Pack" of The Cup(Maybe I should tell her how many tins I have opened....lol). Especially now that we are in the process of trying to buy a house.

I think I have finishing splurging for now. I have to concentrate on closing on a house by November 30, 2009 so I can get my $8k tax credit when tax season roles around!!!

PS: Its also good that this years Cup has made me profit!!!

I'm not allowed to talk about cards, smoking, or PORN! I guess all 3 things I'm addicted to. So I suck it up, use cash and listen to her talk about the AWESOME episode of Army Wives she just watched for hours.

As far as the separate checking accounts go,I know alot of couples that have them.

My wife has hers that she uses for shopping and things like that for herself,I've got mine that I use for cards,etc..

We have a joint that is used to pay all the bills and food shopping and so on. We each put roughly 90% of our weekly pay check into it and keep the rest for ourselves to do whatever with

Well, my wife bought Harry Potter cards and collectibles before me met, and I had lots of cards and autographed items. She thought some of my cards were neat when I showed them to her...but she didn't really realize how much some of this stuff cost! She enjoys watching Bears games with me, and now she enjoys other football games too, because she joined my fantasy football league. She is a big bargain hunter, and enjoys looking through the cheaper cards at card shows to find Urlacher cards (her favorite player), and other Cubs and Bears cards that she thinks I would like. I don't spend as much as I used to, but she is supportive as long as I don't go nuts!

She also enjoys going to the minor league baseball games with me and helps me getting autographs. She got to meet Ryne Sandberg a few times this year and I got her picture with him...and we were able to get several autographs of him...which she enjoyed. I also encourage her to buy her Harry Potter cards and collectibles when she wants, so that helps out as well.

Default Joint Checking Accounts

I told my g/f that when we buy our house we are going to have a separate checking account for our Mortage & bills.

I will never share a personal checking account with her or anybody for that matter. There is just so much that could go wrong. Me being the wrong part of it....lol

Maybe you should marry her instead of just playing house.

These suggestions/stories are priceless...still don't think ANY of them will fly unless the come out with a "Sex and the City" Series 1..........other than that, I don't think she'll even agree to a "mancave" yet, she already has plans for the baby's room when the time comes!....Seperate checking....going to have to consider this one....

Here is the way I see it. I assume you and your wife both work or you at least work. As long as your bills are paid and you have a cushion in the bank to fall back on then you should be able to spend money on something you enjoy. Everybody spends money on themselves , some things more usless than others. I assume your wife is no different. Next time she throws a fit. Reminder of this. She married you and should want to see do something that makes you happy (sometimes sad). Tell her that you like to see her buy things that make her happy. Maybe even buy her a little something nice the next time you buy a box. As long as the bills are paid and your not short on money, I say enjoy some of it.

The seperate checking accounts are a good idea for many reasons. We have a together checking account for bills. Then we have our personal accounts that we spend on what we want. Even before we were together I had multiple accounts. I have never felt comfortable having all my eggs in one basket.

It's all ours, just I can spend some without getting bitched at and she can spend some on what she wants, then we have our joint account. I think it works out great and it's better then hiding money or telling lies about it.

Can you imagine, going to your wife and asking "permission" every time you want to buy a card. That would suck. or say "honey can I but this $600 box of cards, or $2000 case." how often will you be able to do that without getting ragged on?

The only thing she says, and she has a point is I should sell some off and consolidate. But I do not the have time or patience to do that yet.
