Why does my back hurt so badly?
 

So Tuesday night I changed my rear brake pads, and it required me to contort myself a little up under the car ... so I didn't think much of it when I woke up with a sore back on Wednesday morning. Pain just on the upper left side of the back, so I figure I pulled a back muscle or something.

On Thursday night, I took a muscle relaxer before I went to bed, and when I woke up Friday morning it was even worse. I noticed that the pain had spread to my chest muscles as well. Really bad muscle pull I guess. When I woke up this morning, it was hurting as badly as it had the day before, and the day before that.

When I got out of the shower this morning, I noticed the rash on my chest. Didn't take much 'Googling' to figure out what it was.

Ah, crap.

So what was it?

Definitely crossed my mind, was moving some bricks this afternoon and came across a couple of black widows, but I think that would have been much more immediate.

Doctor confirmed it was Shingles .... nothing like asking for Valtrex at your local pharmacy. I can never go back there.

Ive had shingles, fricken sucks man. I am sorry to hear that. I have had shingles twice at 20 and 21. I would get the shingles shot if you have the chance to.

It's not so bad at this point, but I expect the pain to get worse over the next few days. Got some decent pain meds, but I can't take those at work. Or [I]can[/I] I ... :devil:

Doesn't Black Widow bites kill within minutes? or is that a myth? I won't Google it because it will show pictures of spiders and that is my biggest fear haha.

Thanks a lot! Black widow bites take several hours to kill, but the bite is apparently very painful and the skin becomes discolored.

Don't worry about it. Valtrex is for treating the symptoms which come from several different ailments (chicken pox is not too uncommon)...
