Thumbs down "Please raise your right hand"

She then proceeds to raise her left hand. If I got a nickel everytime someone did that at work, I'd be one rich SOB.

How can people not know their left from their right??

I'm gonna go with a low level of intelligence. After you see the same people over and over again doing it, the "nerves" excuse goes away.

You should tell them it will cost them a nickel every time they do that and start collecting the money on their way out. Or, you should make a bet with someone new in the courtroom!

On a serious note: There is a reason you keep seeing them over and over again. I went to this training on fetal alcohol syndrome and they predicted that 70% of repeat offenders probably have some sort of FASD. They are actually trying to get it as a recognized mental health disorder so they can treat people appropriately. They used to think that everyone had the distinct facial features but they now know that there is a spectrum much like autism.

surprisingly, most of the cases don't involve alchohol. It's heroine, PCP, crack, cocaine, meth, WET and prescription pain killers or benzos.

It's the letter number combo right after watch?v= in the URL, inside YouTube tags. Quote me to see....

It being the same people over and over again would actually display that with some of those people it most definitely could be nerves.

People have processing issues. My wife, who will be a doctor (physchologist)in May, has trouble with her left and right. In certain cases, it may not be spmeone of a low IQ...just processing issues.

Sorry, I didn't explain that well. fetal alcohol syndrome is a mental health disorder caused by the mother drinking while pregnant. Some people consider it a mental retardation. 95% of individuals with FASD abuse drugs.

In all due respect to your wife and such, the wonderful people in my rooms every week don't have "processing issues"

I'd like to think I am above average in intelligence, and I always have to pretend I have a pencil in my hand to distinguish between left and right.

I think (hope) this is pretty normal actually. My 6-year-old can read at a very high level, does multiplication and division in his head, etc ... yet he gets left-vs-right incorrect almost every time.

I am WAY beyond being surprised about how stupid some people are... Nothing surprises me anymore and more often than not I will assume people (in general) don't know many things that I/we assume they know. Honestly, it is frightening.

I'm going to agree with others here. My cousin is a programmer at a major MAJOR server virtualization company. She has to look at her hands to pick out left and right. It's not automatically a sign of lack of intelligence and it's not that uncommon.

I know how to play the piano and my piano teacher drilled it into me at the age of 12 which hand was my left and which hand is my right. That works out really well for me. Never have abused drugs or my medications, but I am blessed to have a mother and father who raised me well & took care of me as I was growing up.

Now that I'm becoming a mature adult I realize the importance of raising your children in the way in which they should go. That is why I'm doing my best to wait and take all relationships slowly, especially when they are with women. Not trying to rush marriage. I want my children to have an easier life than me & I realize the importance of having a good mother & father in the home.

Right and left issues are not an indicator of intelligence or lack thereof. I'm sure there are plenty of dumb people who have them, but there are just as many smart people who have the same issues.

My wife says this kinda thing happens at the store she manages routinely.

"Where is this item ?"
"On your left"
Customer looks to their right and then back at her in confusion.
Her standard follow up response is
"Your other left"
