Default Ebay Ethics: Your thoughts

Situation: You have an item for sale, BIN/OBO. You have 2 offers, both close. You Counter both with the same #. One comes back with something close to what you want, but not quite. The other has yet to respond.

Quesiton: When the other responds, if they aren't at the level of the 1st responder, do you reply to the 2nd saying "I have another higher offer for X amount. Would you like to bid higher?"

Because that exact question was just asked to me. I guess it's ok, but something about it feels wrong. I dont know. I think i'd be uncomfortable saying that, or feel like i'd be accused of trying to drive up the price.

As long as you're honest, I don't see anything wrong with telling someone making an offer that you have another offer for X that you'll accept if they don't want to beat it.

And the key there is being honest, you can see if people have made offers, so they'll know if you even have any offer, but then if they pass and you accept a lesser offer or don't accept an offer at all, then it's a bit shady to me

If someone asked me that I would feel that they would just take my number back to the other buyer and try to create a bidding war and then I would walk from the deal.

I do this all the time if I get two people making offers. I go to the lower of the two and when I click decline, I let them know the reasoning is that I have another offer that is higher. Hopefully the timing will be right that I can then sit on the higher offer for a few more hours, if not longer, and hope the other buyer makes another go at it.
But like other people have already said, just being honest.
