Default Idea for Holiday contest/forum event

Hey guys- I was thinking tonight about a fun idea for a contest for Christmas/Holidays. I don't like it when the shopping malls roll out the XMas stuff so early, but I bring this up now cause it would take a lot of planning.

I was thinking it'd be cool to do a Secret Santa gift exchange on the board. What do you all think?

People could sign up by a certain date, and share a bit about themselves (favorite team, player, sport). One or two people would have to coordinate it (and have access to the Secret Santa matches). We'd have to set a max dollar amount, too (maybe $5-$10).

Would you participate in an activity like this? Is anyone interested in helping to plan it?

Sounds interesting, but a lot of work for those doing the coordinating.

haha, right. That was one of my concerns- that people didn't get the short end of the stick. That, and setting the maximum limit low enough that it wouldn't be limited to the high rollers.

50 bucks? I think not. I think 10-20 bucks is much more reasonable. I would also suggest a minimum positive feedback for a member to participate.

I like that idea. My only question, would $10-$20 be book value or actual amount spent? For example, I could send what seems like a junk auto that books at $20, or I could send a card I actually know I spent $20 on that probably books around $30-$40. Prolly too complicated that way, huh?

How about a 1992 Fleer Ultra Gary Discarcina RC. I think this is a really neat idea. But for someone like me, I'm strictly a baseball guy. If I were to draw someone that is a football guy, I'd have to go and buy something for him and I don't think that is the point. So what I'm suggesting is you list a team/player from at least three of the major four sports. I think a $20 minimum is safe. If you go over the amount then it's all on your karma.

Or instead of single card swap. Why not $20-50 in packs of one type of sport and year. Hobby unless stated. Like I like to build the UD FB series 1 & topps chrome sets. So I would put down 08 UD FB/08 Topps chrome. A limit has to be set though. We do have some members with a strick spending limit. And some members with expensive tastes. IE: the Cup,NT,Exquisite. LOL not putting any of our members in this category.

Also, I'd put in there you must be a member of the board for at least 6 months (or however long) or we could have a situation of people joining with bad intentions.

Sounds like it could be fun but it will be a lot of work. Unfortunately with some of the problems between members there could be some issues with people not wanting to do it because of a particular member being included.

You can count me in .. I've done autograph swaps on other sites, and they've gone off (mostly) without any problems. The SV range of $20-40 sounds good, and you will definately want to limit who can join in by trader rating or time on the forums.

If each person provides a list of 3 players and 3 teams, that should give enough options to find something nice for the person you get.

Yeah, could do it that way (have everyone post 2or 3 players/teams that they'd like), then just whom ever is organizing it, keep everything on a spreadsheet, maybe has two people do random.org's (one being a list of numbers, one being a list of poeple), then the organizer could combine those lists, then send out PM's to everyone.

I think you'd still want to keep it around the 25 range. This way if someone does get burned (keep in mind you'll be in/around the holiday season, packages get lost).

Could work out really neat. This was talked about last night and think it fizzled. Will be a fair amount of leg work, but if done, I think it could be really neat.

And yes...provided I'm kept in the loop..I'm in!
