Default Better "Boston" Crime Movie? The Departed or The Town?

I'm partial to The Town as I was an extra in it. The Departed was great too though. The Town is currently on TNT right now too!

I've been watching for the last hour. Which scene are you in?

When Affleck and the other guy are at Fenway watching the game from the Budweiser Pavilion before the big hit I walk past them in the crowd.

Check out The Friends of Eddie Coyle. It's probably the best Boston crime drama ever

The Town isn't even Affleck's best Boston movie. Gone Baby Gone is better IMO

Mystic River is another good one

The Town for sure

But TNT keeps cutting out scenes, and not even bad ones, wondering if its just to keep it in the time window they need

The Departed is, IMO, one of the greatest films ever made.

No disrespect to The Town, it was a very good film as well, but The Departed gets my vote.

Both great films. I loved both of them. I went with The Town because it surprised me more. Departed was Scorsese directed so you know it's going to be good. But when someone says "Ben Affleck directed" you don't expect much. I thought it was an absolutely fantastic film from start to finish though.

He's only directed 3 (GBG and Argo) and all three are badass. All rate 90% fresh or higher on RT

His acting might be suspect (especially early in his career), but his directing skills are second to none

I think his point was that at the time of the Town, most people probably didn't know he did GBG, and just figured that if you heard he was director, you wouldn't be expecting much.

I am in agreement. I guess the point I was trying to make is that people may tend to be skeptical when Affleck is fronting a movie. That is based on his less than stellar acting skills.

Gone Baby Gone was a great film. I look forward to seeing Argo. Looks pretty good as well.

I agree. I actually figured GBG would be garbage and didn't see it until a year after it came out, because I didn't like Affleck

Argo was really good.

Gone baby gone wins over both for me! One of my top 5 movies. Casey Affleck blew me away with his performance.

I haven't seen The Departed. I really like The Town because I'm familiar with where a lot of the places they filmed at.

I think The Town is actually an underrated film...a lot of that having to do with the "star power" in The Departed

both are good but my vote goes to your movie

The Departed
Jack F'n Nicholson / thread

As it is loosely based on Whitey Bulger and I know quite a few people in that circle I'm a little biased

Both very goods though

I like em both but you have to throw The Boondock Saints in the mix as well.

Well the movie the movie the Departed was based on/stole from or whatever is from Hong Kong, so its tough to call Departed a Boston movie but out of those two movies, which are both great, I go Departed.

I'm a big movie buff and I love crime drama/action movies. I really didn't like The Departed that much. I felt like the movie was all over the place and didn't go very smooth. It was hard to understand at times, I feel. I didn't like it all that much.

The Town was awesome! Ben Affleck came out of now where with this one I believe. Great movie and the heist at Fenway was awesome. It's one of my favorite movies I have seen in the last few recent years.

I read somewhere that Damon and Affleck are doing a new movie together. It's a crime drama about Whitey Bulger from Boston. That's all know and I already am looking forward to it.
