Looks like Chicago was the first city ELIMINATED from contention for the 2016 Olympics...I still cannot believe those people who thought just because Obama was President that would sway the voters towards Chicago...

Good. Mayor Palmer and the Obama's don't deserve the Olympics anyhow. Just my opinion of course.

I'm glad that the Olympics are not coming to Chicago. It was a stupid idea from the start. Chicago has to many other problems to deal with first. It was all to boost the ego of the mayor. That guy is just a tool.

I think it was Daley's fault...when he was speaking for Chicago, he was criticizing the other cities, and its in the rules that you cant do that...

Hey Barrack Obama, I guess the world does not love you as much as you think. This is a colossal mistep by Obama when he has much more pressing issues here at home. He is going to need a large spatula to get the egg off of his face.

Thats pocket change compared to how much the city of Chicago would have lost had they actually got the games. California and New York are already staring in the face of bankruptcy, these games would have sealed the fate of Illinois as well. Hosting the Olympics is prestigious to be sure, but it is also a HUGE financial drain.

Somewhat debatable. Initially investment certainly is a drain, especially if infrastructure is poor, but long term economic impact can return a profit. The LA games were actually profitable by $250 Million. Atlanta, Korea, Barcelona also were on the plus side. On the other hand Montreal was a disaster. All about infrastructure and planning. It's a great opportunity in the right place with the right people making the decisions.

I should've seen this coming. Some Olympian suggested to Bob Holtzman of ESPN that there might still be a "hangover" from the last eight years in terms of Chicago not getting the Olympics. Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight...

President Obama was looked at as the CLOSER in this. After failing, it really made sense. Another Chicago closer blowing the game!!!! Chicago fans should be all to used to this!!!

Yeah, that was Rowdy Gaines. If my name was Rowdy and I was a 50 year old man making ridiculous statements, I'd probably rather be known as "some Olympian" though.

None of you guys could seriously think that the US was going to get the games. Everyone figured that if Obama went or not, they were going to go to a place that has never had them before.

The only problem is, if Obama didn't go to lobby for the US, someone would be telling him he didn't do enough. Instead, since he did go, people are cheering that he failed. Damned either way... you really can't please people who look at the negatives either way.
