Haha, apparently you didn't learn well enough that you aren't supposed to speed. You knew they consequences if you got caught. Now they'll attempt to teach you again haha.

I live in Ohio, too...if you're under 18, there's a very good chance you'll lose your license for up to a few months. How long, what privileges, going to traffic school, etc. pretty much depends on the judge.

Good luck.

That's why I said detector, those jammers don't work as well as you would like them to. If you decide to get one, I'd recommend the passport escort 7500, they should be pretty cheap on Ebay (I bought one for $70 three years ago)

P.S. - Also don't hit the breaks if the detector goes off, just let go of the gas pedal nothing says I got caught speeding like using your breaks to slow down your speed

Do you pay for your own insurance? If so, that next bill might get interesting.

<lecture>

Seriously, the sooner you learn that speeding is a stupid thing to do and you stop doing it the better. You're not the only one out on the road. When you do something dangerous, you are putting OTHER people in jeopardy in addition to yourself.

I pay half for my car insurance. My mom/dad pay the rest. Trust me, I know speeding is stupid. At the time I was the only car on the road though. If there was only one other car that I saw, then I would not have been speeding.

I think people said it already; Be respectful to the judge and don't give excuses as to why you were speeding. Take responsibility for your actions and hope for the best.

Ignore the soap on a rope messages, I have never seen a minor go to jail for speeding.

Um wow.....so that makes it perfectly okay. And it's also okay to text and drive as well as drive drunk as long as there's no one else on the road right?

Since when did speeding become as bad as distracted or drunk driving? Speeding, if you're not distracted/impaired, isn't a big deal provided you're capable of operating a motor vehicle within the other rules of the road.

Edit: OP, good luck. I have very little advice beyond be polite as mentioned above. I was in your situation 14 years ago and my insurance hasn't been aware of a ticket/moving violation in over a decade.

Oh that makes it TOTALLY okay then. In case you didn't know. Most accidents happen when you are only a couple miles away from home. Speeding is one of the reasons.

Why is everyone so upset about speeding? Grow up already.

Austin, just do what everyone else has said. Be respectful towards the judge, take whatever punishment there is, and be more careful next time. Live and learn, nearly all of us receive a ticket sometime in life. I got my first (and only) speeding ticket doing 35 in a 25 when I was 17. A few years later, the city raised the speed limit of that same road to 35 lol.

Good luck!

You're right. Nothing wrong with 52 in a 35. That's not how people get killed or anything right?

I don't understand why you were not given anything and were just told you would have a court date. I understand if they mail you a citation but you still acknowledge and sign a report by the officer on what the infraction was better hope this cop doesn't add addtl charges like reckless driving or anything like that

Ask for a calibration test for the radar gun. If its even slightly off then they will throw out the case. Worked well in Indiana when I lived there.

Calm down Mr. Sensitivity. Kid made an error in judgment...we all do it I'm sure. No need for the PSA.

I was going 67 in a 45 could have got reckless driving and speeding. All I got was a warning god bless that officer. I haven't sped since though. You being 17 and high risk as it is I bet your car insurance may go up too.

Oh you're right. Guess you've never lost a family member to someone who was "in a hurry" to get home. Well I have. Not exactly a laughing matter if you ask me. And go figure, the jerk who was in a hurry walked away without a scratch while my cousin was being put into a body bag. Funny, right?
