Exclamation Court advice?

Hey guys,
I got pulled over, about 45 minutes ago, and since I am a juvenile, I have to go to juvenile court. I was speeding, and was doing 52 in a 35. The weird thing, is that the cop was in the middle of the road, with no lights on. It's a pretty busy road, so I'm not sure. But anyways, I just want some advice on what I should do. I should get a letter from the court, saying when I should go, but the officer, said that it can be a few days up to a few months. I'm just nervous, and don't know what to do.
Thanks,
Austin

Hmm...in Illinois they issue you a court date when you get the ticket. You have the option of just paying the ticket by mail/over the internet (depending on the county) or actually going to the court date if you think you're not guilty or just want to ask for a payment extension or ask for court supervision. Nothing to really be nervous about, happens to just about everyone.

I couldn't! The officer, said that I had to go to court, and couldn't get a ticket, because I'm 17 and not 18

Well, I wish I could say I was guilty, but I know I was speeding. The thing is I can't pay anything, because I wasn't issued a ticket. I have to go to court instead.

Prayer for Judgement if it's your first offense (In NC at least)...that will usually only run you court costs (this is from the only experience I've had) Only thing is, you can't have any citations for the next 3 years or they will hit you with both of the tickets the next time.

Go to court pay fine.
Save your points and take the Driver improvement classes if they offer it.

They'll probably make you take a class of some sort or maybe do community service then...I'm not sure how things work in Ohio. Either way, don't worry about it...it happens.

Talk to the DA and see if they will drop/reduce it and see if you can get it resolved out of court. Usually works well.

Thanks a lot guys! I appreciate it! Still a little nervous about the whole thing. This was my first offense, so that's why I'm asking. Hopefully, my last as well

I got a 42 in a 25, got it dropped to 34 in a 25. (No points on license, etc) Still had to pay court costs. My friend has had 2 speeding tickets dropped to improper equipment.

Lucky for you...not your friend. My dad said, I may get my license suspended, but I'm looking at $150-$200 fine, and 2 points.

Actually my friend was more lucky than I was. Haha. Improper equipment is a $50 fine I believe.

Would I have to go to traffic school? I already completed that, about a year ago.

I would contest the ticket and then show up for the court date. They give you an option to plead guilty so you don't actually have to go through with the trial.

It is possible if you contest it, it will become lost in the system. Not likely but it happened to me.

That being said if you were speeding just views it as a $200 fee you paid that allowed you unlimited speeding until you got caught.

Just be respectful to the judge and officers when you got to court. Dress appropriately. Say "No Sir, Yes Sir, etc."

They MAY ease up on you if you act mature.

Thanks for the input! I was being courteous, to the officer the whole time, and he was kinda cool about it.

My advice is don't speed in the first place then you don't have to worry about court.

Oh yeah be honest as well, don't go into court and say you wern't speeding, if you lie it will most likely result in the automatic worst case scenerio.

I know. I was speeding, and I'll admit it. But I was just hurry to get home. That is why I was speeding

Better to be (your name) and late than to be THE LATE "Your Name".

Get a radar detector if legal in your state.

10 years ago I had one of these and a radar jammer. I got pulled over cop looked at on the visor and said "They don't work do they?", I responded "It went off right after I saw your light come on." I never used them again.
