I was talking about this with a fellow teacher today. Long story short, I stopped giving my students birthday parties, buying them McDonalds/pizza/etc., buying clothes, etc. because most of the time I do not get a thank you or I get a stapler thrown at my head.

I only do these things for one student who is very appreciative of everything my staff and I give him.

Happens every time I hold a contest or send someone something. Sometimes I get a thanks but most of the time I do not. I am good at remembering who I sent something to and whether or not I received a thanks or not.

So rude. Im sure that i say thank you before i even put them in their respective boxes. Im also sure to put a slip of paper containing the members name so i dont sell the card..

I've only given away cards five times here, and only twice have I received a thank you. I'm not asking for you to return the favor and give me cards, I'm not asking for money, and I'm not asking for public resignation. All I want is a "thanks for the card". It's just common courtesy.

This is me indirectly calling those who out didn't thank me. You know who you are.

I can't stand it when people don't say thank you for a free card. I thank someone if they sell me a card, or if they buy from me.
And then you have the people who turn around and flip the stuff they get for free.

I'm with you on this.

I certainly don't want or expect a thread celebrating what I've done for someone. But a simple thank you PM accomplishes two things:

1) I know they have received the card(s)
2) Shows some real appreciation for your gesture

If I've sent out 15 freebie packages, I bet I've received maybe five notes of thanks afterwards. Certainly won't stop me from continuing to do it, but I cannot imagine not thanking someone for sending me cards for free.
