Default Spielberg / Hanks to work on third WW2 miniseries for HBO

YAY!

Since the air footage will probably look like that in Red Tails, all I can say is, this is going to be awesome!

I am ashamed to admit it, but I have yet to watch Band of Brothers or the Pacific; however, I did purchase them both for my father-in-law for his last birthday, so I will just have to borrow those copies and check them out

I felt the same way at first because I am such a fan of BoB that I didn't think The Pacific could keep up. But once you get 2-3 episodes in, you're hooked. At least I was. Crushed it on NetFlix in like 2 days haha

Band of Brothers is a must watch IMO.

As such, The Pacific already starts at a disadvantage, however, it is about a different war. The war in Europe was a success story. The war in the Pacific was a nightmare.

I refuse to support anything Spielberg touches.

BoB was beyond great. The best thing I have ever watched on TV or the movies. Have not watched The Pacific yet, but I saw someone above mention that is is on Netflix so I will check it out.

@IndySportsCards - What's your beef with Spielberg?

Band of Brothers was amazing. One of my all time favorites. Shifty Powers was a local guy that not many knew about before BoB and finally got his due respect from the locals before he passed away thanks to that series.

Can't wait to see what they come up with.

So take it this is about the Bombers during WWII? If so that is awesome as I think younger people, myself included need to see how dangerous that job was. Unreal what those men went through.

Not going to lie, I cried in both BoB and the Pacific.

In high school I worked at A&W with a nice older guy who flew bombing missions in a B-17 with Tom Landry!

I absolutely LOVED BoB, and also enjoyed The Pacific.
But I think, if done right, this one could be the best of them all.
Gonna be a challenge to capture what every mission was like, from the prep to the anticipation.
And showing those beds that remained empty when a crew didn't return....

Cannot wait for this one!

Has there been any good miniseries about WWII from the Russian perspective? I'd love to see that made some time if it hasn't been already.

So you are saying that you were not a fan of the movie The Terminal?

I have been hoping for a remake of Memphis Belle. Ah well, a 10 hour miniseries about the air war will be SO MUCH BETTER

Speaking of the air war. There's a great story about George McGovern and his accidental bombing of a farm in rural Germany. It's in one of those books, maybe even the one mentioned as a source. Great story (with a good outcome) if you know what I'm talking about!

Band of Brothers is the single greatest thing ever put on film IMO.

This news makes me ecstatic

It's a shame not to own it on Blu Ray if you can. The price goes down every once in a while to $30

take all my money now Spielberg/Hanks!

BoB and the Pacific are both regular plays on my blu-ray. and Saving Private Ryan was a brilliant piece of movie making. i don't think they're capable of making a bad military adaptation. maybe it's just the military part of me that says so, but those three pieces of film are amazing and never get old after repeated viewings.
