Can you get a 'perfect' these days without getting all the questions right?

Long ago, a perfect 1600 meant you didn't miss a question (my high school girlfriend got a 1600). Then for a while they modified the scale and you could miss a few and still get a 1600.

My claim to fame:
Only person in the state of Alabama to ever score a perfect on the 3rd grade version of those standardized tests (the one that every student in the state takes at the end of each school year.) That was long ago, so surely someone else has done it. The teacher, principal, superintendent were all in awe and I didn't know what the big deal was.

I had a smart phone back then to cheat!

I don't think it's possible to get a perfect score on the SAT if you get some wrong because I'm pretty sure the SAT is the one that you get negative points for wrong answers.

But I'm not 100% sure on that, I remember one of the ACT/SAT you were told that if you didn't know it, leave it blank because on one wrong answers are negative points and the other wrong answers are just nothing

ACT you get graded based on how many are right, but you could get at least 1, maybe a few more wrong on a test with overall bad scores and still average out to a 36.

That was a joke. In 3rd grade we still used rotary phones and the cashiers typed the prices into the register. (look it up)

You are allowed to miss two questions on each sections and still get a perfect score

That's nuts. Wonder if they were using PEDs like aderol.

Best SAT score for me was 1270.
I think that was average for 2010, not sure.

if you study for the sat or act i hope that means you just didn't actually go to class because it only tests retention knowledge

What I learned from prepping for the GRE and GMAT:

Those tests only test how well you take that particular test. You will score higher if you learn how the test writers create the questions and their purpose.

Stupid concepts: GMAT - a minority group will never been written about in a negative light. If the reading portions have answer choices that appear negative you can rule them out.

I do better with written standardized tests. SAT, PSAT, etc were on paper. I took the GRE and GMAT on the computer. The timer in the corner (you can hide at the beginning, but not near the end) is terrible.

How things have changed:
I don't think I even showed an ID for the SAT. For the GMAT I had to provide ID, eye scan and palm scan to enter the testing room and to exit.

They don't provide all that great of an assessment.

The companies that own the tests lobby colleges hard to require the tests....i.e. to keep their revenues high.

For over a decade HBS did not require the GMAT, then someone from the GMAC must have done some great lobbying to get Harvard to add it back. $200+ for each test adds up quickly.

The General Management Assessment Test

Most graduate business schools require it instead of the GRE. I took both. Took the GRE in 2001 when I was offered a research position in the Master's of Marine Geology program. I ended up not going that route. Ten years later I chose business school instead.

Think LSAT (Law) and MCAT (medicine)

Just goes to show how hard people go to cheat on these tests. My SAT long ago was in the high school library on a Saturday. The GRE and GMAT were in testing centers that felt like Big Brother TV show.

A guy watched us outside the glass testing room. He made me sign out, eye scan out, palm scan out and all the same to come back in. I'm thinking: guy, there are four people in that room. you just saw me 30 second ago and you watched me for over 2hrs already. Aren't we pretty chummy by now?

When I was a senior in high school, my girlfriend who was a junior scored a 1580 and took it a second time. I thought she was crazy, because each time you take it doesn't erase the memory of the previous score. She proved me wrong with a 1600. She went on to Dartmouth. No clue where she is now.

1270 out of 2400? That's kid of low isn't it?

Compare to before 2005 that's like saying you got 800 out of 1600

I got a 1150 in 1999 and I'm fine with that

SAT 1860, GMAT 710.

Took prep courses, waste of money both times. The review books were more helpful for me. I just hate standardized tests in general.

Now the CPA and Bar exams, those are the devil.

Wait, so you're one of "those" people that believe you should get ALL the questions right to get a PERFECT score?!

(For the record, I agree and wish there were a sarcasm font)
