My 3 year old is really into hockey right now so we have been watching it here and there for him. My husband doesn't get into it but I enjoy watching the games with my son. I am pretty excited because we are going to take him to Hershey Bears game in March.

Because when it's legal, it happens frequently...which takes away a lot of the excitement. When it's not allowed, it happens far more infrequently and is significantly more exciting.

I love hockey except when a 'big' team is in town and are getting slammed and Toronto starts to make the calls...

I'll watch a Wings game when I'm home to watch. Going to the game against Edmonton in a week. But I also played hockey for quite a few years, so I may enjoy it more than the average person.

This is by far the best reason why. I grew up in Indiana and when I was little there was nowhere to play Hockey for 100 miles, no highschools except up in the very northern states play hockey, least they didn't anywhere near my area. You dont need much to play the big three sport anywhere, a ball, a field, a glove, a net ect...... Hockey requires Ice which is not a staple in 90% of the USA unless ,again, you live up north. I personally love hockey because its a great sport, fast paced, and good hitting. Its a really fun sport but I dont think it will ever achieve the status of the big 3.

My wife and I LOVE watching hockey in person. Neither of us watch it on TV unless it's the Olympics and the U.S. is playing.

I grew up playing street hockey in my neighborhood (loved it) and baseball as well. I can not watch either on the ole tube though...just puts right to sleep. I do, however, love to watch both in person.

You don't give Americans enough credit. If we love the hist and violence of football, why does everyone like offense the most?

I like Hockey, although I don't necessarily consider myself a fan. What I mean is that I don't actively seek out a hockey game. But if one is on I will watch it. My daughter asked me a few days ago how the players are able to skate and do everything else that they do at the same time. I told her, "that is an excellent question!"

I think that we forget how difficult it is just to skate on ice. You have to learn how to stop on a dime, change direction, and have the endurance to go up and down the ice for a long period of time. Then you throw in a stick and a puck and that only serves to up the ante.

I do not mind the fighting in hockey but it is a bit overrated IMO. I hate the idea of goons although I understand their purpose. Generally there are a limited number of guys on each team that will drop the gloves though. Ultimately it will not be part of the sport for the long term and it will be interesting to see how it changes things.

Also I do not view it as legal. It is just penalized differently than other sports at this point.

You're correct...legal was the wrong term to use. I should have used "accepted."
