I will start by saying I am a little overweight and I'm sure that causes it. But it has to be something more.
I cannot get to bed before 4am. I have tried sleeping pills. I pulled all-nighters a night before which is sure to knock me out the next night... and it doesn't. I work-out, sometimes pretty hard cardio workouts and I am still awake. The weirdest thing is I feel tired all day when I try this... until I lay down. I can't go to the doctor because I don't have insurance (what kind of 22 year old full-time college student doesn't have insurance? This guy haha). It has started to affect my schooling greatly (I have classes at 10am). Any helpful hints on how to improve my sleeping? Thanks. |

Chloroform
![]() Sorry, but other than see the doctor, I don't have any suggestion. I suffered with insomnia for a bit and got a prescription from my doctor and it helped a ton, but I guess that isn't an option. Hope you find something!

I've read that you've gotta train your brain to think that the bed = sleep every time so doctors advise that you should avoid doing anything else on the bed. If you can't sleep yet, stand up and move elsewhere until you're sleepy. It's not a quick fix but it should help.

Do you work out before you go to sleep? If so that may be your problem, i work 2nd shift and go work out with a co worker after work (1am) and he had the same problem sleeping after work outs so he had to change his work out schedule

You can always throw a bowling ball in the air and let it hit you in the head. Works for me. And the affects as far as brain damage are shockingly minimal for me, so maybe it will work for you.

Talk to your doctor about a sleep test.
I've used a CPAP for almost two years. Wonderful machine.

What time in the day do you workout? When is your last meal of the day? How much caffeine do you drink and when? How much tv, video games, or other video entertainment do you have throughout the day? How much sugar/junkfood do you eat? This will help me get a better understanding of how to help because I delt with this same thing when I was in my 20's

This for sure. There have been times I've nodded off at work, hands on the keyboard, eyes open, but I am gone. I snap back a few minutes later, wipe the drool off of my chin, and go back to what I was doing.

That Bob Marley stuff doesn't work very well. Try Zzzquil.

Yeah, what has been the reaction with Zzzquil. This is relatively new, right? Does it actually work?
I've found that reading is a great way to fall asleep. Not sure why, but if I'm in bed, after a few pages I'm good. Doesn't always work, but sometimes. Also, you didn't mention caffeine. Do you consume any? If so, might be best to stop much earlier in your day. Wish a doctor's visit was possible - but this would likely be more of a specialist thing anyway, right? They don't require college students to have health insurance? I thought when I was in school (~10 years ago) it was required, but that could've been a MA thing, not sure. In any case, good luck, I hope you figure something out...
