Default xbox 360 question

I got my kids an xbox 360 bundle for xmas...its the 4GB type, white, had Skylanders bundle with it...anyway...if i download demos the 4GB gets used up quickly so i think i probably need to invest in a hard drive at this point...I think there is a port on the front you can just slide one in? I've looked around online at stuff for sale and i dont think i need much, maybe just a 20GB or something like that...but i can't figure out exactly which one to get?

Anyone have advice on what I need here? If there is one that will fit in the xbox and not stick out the front or be an external type drive thats what i need...i dont want my kids messing around with it....so internal is the way to go...just need to figure out which type to get? Seems to be a few different types and i dont want to get the wrong one.

Did you get a regular Xbox or an Elite? The type hard drive is different between the two. For a quick fix, you can also plug in a thumb drive into the USB ports on the front if you want to.

Xbox 360 4GB Console w/ Skylanders Starter Kit and Exclusive Gill Grunt Character - Walmart.com

i tried the usb drive thing and it said my usb drive wasnt fast enough but it did work...unfortunately the kids kept unplugging it...thus the need for an internal drive.

Okay so I believe you have the slim version. You'll need a hard drive that looks like this:

Xbox 360 250GB HardDrive - Xbox Slim Only:Amazon:Video Games

This is exclusive to the slim model so make sure you get this kind. And yes there are varying GB sizes.

Here's a video if you don't know how to remove your hard drive. Helped me with my Xbox lol.

Yes that will work. I personally use a 250 GB hard drive but that may be because I'm a big gamer. A 20GB should serve you fine for the time being, but I recommend a bigger one so you can install your games onto your hard drive. That way, if your games get scratched to hell and back, the information on the CD is still on the hard drive an you'll still be able to play with that same über-scratched disc. I figure that might be something you should take in consideration depending on how old your kids are.

That's a great one Trust me, it definitely helps so save your discs to your hard drive. I've saved a few of my games by doing that.

once you save the games to the hard drive do you need the disks again or do they just play directly off the drive? i figure they might make you keep the disk around to keep people from just copying the game over and selling the disk?

Yeah, you have to have the disc to play the game.

Yea if you download the disc to your hard drive you still have to have the disc in too play. Downloading it to the hard drive helps against scratched discs and supposedly makes the game run smoother/faster.

I never download them to the hard drive even though I have the 250gb

not necessarily smoother or faster, but it really helps your hardware last longer. the disc spins less when you have the game installed, so you won't get a burnout in the reader/spinner if you install most of your games.

when you're done playing for good, just uninstall the game but keep the save info in case you come back to it down the road.
