This x1,000,000. Soda is horrible for you. You will lose 5-10 lbs just cutting out soda. Ensure you do cardio every other day.

i suggest actually not working out every day.

gotta give your body at least 1 day a week to fully rest.

might actually be more. i cut it out of my diet (unless i'm at a restaurant that doesn't have iced tea) and i cut some weight right away.

edit to add: cut out unplanned snacking. and stock up on carrots (or in my case, broccoli) in case you are just dying to throw something in your stomach and it's not meal time.

I was in a different situation, not overweight at all, but not enough muscle compared to fat. Went from 175 to 165 (basically a tune-up) with the following:
-Playing a sport daily
- No soda, ever

And that's pretty much it! At our age, you can get away with eating what you like as long as you stay active.
Speaking of which, I haven't had a true work out in a month, which makes me feel awful. (That's another thing: once you start, you'll never want to stop)
I need to get back into it ASAP, thank you thread!

I repeat, no soda, EVER. I can't even remember the last time I had one.

Isn't West Virginia the fattest state in America? A true mountaineer indeed.

Just kidding, bud. Good luck to you!

I'm also trying to lose some weight right now, really just sick of the belly that I've developed over the last year or two as I'm really not overweight as I'm 5'10" and about 177 lbs right now (have been as much as 185 recently and was at 180 about a week ago).

I'm eating WAY better, but that's thanks to my new job as we get healthy food made for us, I'm eating breakfast for the first time in my life (eggs and fresh fruit every day, turkey bacon and hash browns some days too) and I'm eating great healthy foods for lunch every day too. I've also cut WAY down on the fast food that I was eating basically daily, I've only had it like once or twice each of the last two weeks (basically on the weekends).

At the gym I generally do a mixture of walking and running up an incline (10% for walking about 4.5% for running) and throw in a little bit on the bike as well. I've also started to do pushups, situps, leg lifts, dips, and a little shadow boxing in the sauna as well (for about 20 minutes with two 10 minute intervals in the room doing it), hands down the hardest workout I've done in my life and can barely move after it, completely dripping in sweat after and my body feels cleansed after as well as I drink a few bottles of water in that time too.

I don't really have a weight goal as much as I just want to get rid of the fatty belly that I seem to have created in the last few years. I'm guessing if I can get down to 165-170 and tone up it will get the job done, but if I could maintain about 175 and still lose the belly that would be ideal for me.

When you say "workout"..are you lifting weights, cardio, or both? If your lifting weights as well and trying to gain muscle while losing weight at the same time, I'd recommend not weighing yourself every week. Since muscle weighs more than fat, you can lose fat while gaining muscle and be at the same weight or a little heavier. So the scale isn't always the for sure bet to make sure your staying in line and making progress. Unless your just focusing on cardio to cut weight, then disregard that.

But as some had mentioned before about it's important to take a day off from the gym once a week..if you're lifting weights, you don't need to take a day off. You just need to allow whatever muscle group you worked out to rest for about a 48 hour period before working it out again. So you workout chest and bi's Monday night, don't work them out again until at least Wednesday night. You don't need to take a day off, just allow adequate muscle rest inbetween your days.

Get a good protein powder as well and drink it daily. I have Optimum Nutrition 100% Whey Gold Standard and it tastes delicious.

I am working out as well ( have been for the last 2 months).
I am on my second round of insanity and I love it.
I am 6'2 238lbs.I am not fat but I don't have a six pack. I want to get rid of my flabs.
I have a strict diet and I have not drank soda since..... sheesh I can't remember.
I also lift weights.
Keep us posted man and don't give up.
I have a huge trip set up for a week of white water rafting and want to be in prime shape so stamina and endurance is also apart of why I chose to do insanity.
GLTY!
